"Bring back Version 4 ! Version 6 sucks"

    July 04, 2014   |   By boblite

    Version: Rhapsody 4.0

    Pros

The PC version of Rhapsody Version 4 offered excellent access to a huge music database, showing lodza information about the composer, the performer, the album, the length of each tune. One could summon up a list of all the albums by that particular performer. For each performer there was a list of top tracks.

    Cons

THe PC version of Rhapsody 6 is a pathetic shadow of 4. It offers much much less information than version 4.

    Summary

Management of Rhapsody has thrown PC users of Rhapsody under the bus. I think I am cancelling my membership, if I can find anything less bad.

Dear Rhapsody Managers, please bring back Version 4, with bugs removed.

    Updated on Jul 4, 2014

I am revising my rating from 1 star to 5 stars.

I have been using Rhapsody for about the past 5 years paying a monthly subscription, currently costing me $10 a month, and to me, it is well worth it..

My previous review -- written earlier today -- wrongly assumed I could no longer use Rhapsody Version 4, that works beautifully on my desktop computer. I wrongly assumed I was being forced to migrate to Rhapsody Version 6, which is suited for devices with very small display monitors, like smartphones, because it provides much less information on the main page.

The Version 4 main page gives the user a well designed doorway to access a huge database of high quality music, maybe 95 per cent of all English language music released since 1970, as well as quite a lot from earlier time periods, and allows the user to create large numbers of very long playlists. For each artist it shows [1] a list of top tracks [2] a list of all albums, which can run into 20 or 30 for prolific artists.

"Used to be and still could become THE contender"

    May 06, 2013   |   By guitarface

    Version: Rhapsody 4.0

    Pros

In concept, it does everything and was years ahead of its time. Streaming, subscription downloading, organizing your library, radio stations based on artists you choose, burning to CDs (the only time you really need to pay for individual songs), suggesting artists based on the ones you are currently viewing, artist info, album artwork, alerts to the latest releases... This program should be or should have been, all any music lover ever needs, replacing every other app on the market. There are no new innovations in the digital music market. Rhapsody did it all years ago, but was too soon to market and therefore overlooked.

    Cons

...And it USED to actually DO all of these things. Later iterations get bogged down loading your library and frequently freeze up or do not start playing songs for several minutes or more, even after this has been accomplished. Again, Rhapsody did it all years ago, but was too soon to market and therefore overlooked. Then they let themselves go.

    Summary

Rhapsody is slow as hell, if it doesn't freeze up altogether, and may slow down your whole machine. Is it possible, with all these reviews, that they don't know this after the last 3 or 4 years?Still useful for transferring music to your mp3 player, but not particularly adept at managing it. Streaming music from the WEBSITE is not bad either. I still subscribe to Rhapsody for these uses, and for my old playlists (not that they work very well), but when I want something for keeps I buy it at iTunes, because it works better. Look, Rhapsody, you've still got all kinds of money behind you; you can afford to bring your software back to where it actually works in order to be the best and most complete software on the market and maybe, just maybe, come out on top of the digital music heap. I'd suggest going back to version 2.0 or so, and re-rebuilding from there to match modern OSes. As it is, you're becoming obsolete not because of anything about your business or sales model, but because you aren't willing to invest in getting the memory-handling bugs out of what would still be some incredible software that should still work great for real world consumers.

"Awsome at first and terrible by the end"

    March 30, 2012   |   By AdrianaAndrade

    Version: Rhapsody 4.0

    Pros

The idea is awesome, getting access to such a big data base and being able to download it to your I Phone and listen to it whenever you want is is genius

    Cons

With time gets slower and slower, it keeps crashing and you keep having to download everything again, because guess what ??? It doesn't save the musics separately. Plus you can only download for a couple of days after that the download button mysteriously disappears... hum curious... Maybe my membership should also disappear mysteriously....

I've lost count of how many times I had to re-install this crappy software and lost everything, this was the last time. DONE

"Rhapsody, the worst experience ever had with a business"

    March 04, 2012   |   By jbasc

    Version: Rhapsody 4.0

    Pros

Absolutely none. I guess they have a good BBB rating which only means that they have lots of complaints that they only resolve if you file a complaint with the BBB.

    Cons

Was a Napster member when they switched over. Just closed my account, no information on how I could get my money back for the subscription I had remaining. Support is a joke, they are literally giving you the run around. Took me 2 calls to find out I could get a refund then they claimed they made it but it hasn't shown up on one of my accounts. Then when I tried to figure out where they made the payment they would just keep escalating me from "tier 1" to "tier 2" to "tier 3" close my case and then back to 1. The support company is CSS Corp, which says it is a US company but is staffed entirely by Indians and is absolutely horrible. Sign up with these con artists at your own peril, I didn't and still got screwed.

    Summary

Pay more money for absolutely no added value and then get fleeced if they screw up by getting outsourced to India.

""Good idea, buggy software, crappy service""

    January 07, 2012   |   By stpetecondo33713

    Version: Rhapsody 4.0

    Pros

Good to organize playlists which are sync'd with my tablet.

    Cons

    Can't play 99% of tracks.

    Summary

Everything that the post on August 27, 2011, mentioned.
If you read the Rhapsody forum posts where the employees responded, you can tell that they're not tech support. The responses are scripted as if you're calling a call center in India. You should read some, they're very funny; **** you off kind of funny.

PC player DOES NOT play music.
Website is difficult to navigate, and does not display ALL tracks by an artist.

"Ex 'Sold Out' Napster customer 'Hi-Jacked' by Rhapsody"

    December 16, 2011   |   By Critical-1

    Version: Rhapsody 4.0

    Pros

There aren't any I can find.

    Cons

Pricing, lack of clarity, hard to get/find help, slow responses that didn't address questions and issues to emails.

    Summary

I was a happy satisfied customer of Napster, with a large number of playlists saved, for $5 a month when I got notification I was going to Rhapsody. Playlists were to be saved/transferred over to Rhapsody and my subscription would continue unchanged under Rhapsody. After being down for awhile Napster was gone (totally, no phone etc) and I was a regretful Rhapsody customer.
I have since cancelled the service without waiting for the 'free' trial to end as I never was able to find or get a direct answer as to where the Napster Playlists were and how to access them, just kept going in circles constantly being asked to sign up and being limited to "25 Plays" and only 30 seconds of a song. Ended up inadvertently opening a Rhapsody account which created a second account with same name and password etc... and got my checking acct billed $9.99. Even with that couldn't find the Napster Playlists. After a 25 min phone call (mostly spent waiting) I did get the 'account' closed and money refunded though I was told it was a "special exception" they didn't do refunds.
I have since closed out the Napster/Free Trial of Rhapsody before time was up through dissatisfaction with Rhapsody and not getting a response (probably backed up with complaints and 'new' customers saying "wha the...!" So I still don't have an answer about the 'lost' playlists. But knew I didn't want to spend a lot of time creating new ones that could suddenly be tossed into the abyss.
First... You got to wonder why Napster bailed on us... has the 'creator' gone into hiding, got an offer he couldn't refuse or what? Customers deserve an answer.
Second... Rhapsody seems to be failing on this buy out or whatever through not having their sh..t together and clear concise blinking red arrows leading the Napster faithful to their 'Promised land' and chipping in to the Rhapsody coffers every month. Leaving us to start all over with a new service that doesn't have it's act together and from reading reviews hasn't ever.

"ONCE UPON A TIME it worked; Lately, it's a total MESS."

    October 15, 2011   |   By slondn270

    Version: Rhapsody 4.0

    Pros

    when it WORKS it's GREAT

    Cons

MOST OF THE TIME, it has to "SHUT DOWN" before it even gets started. Some time it allows me a short usage, but all of a sudden, it has to "shut down" for WHATEVER....... ERRORS; ERRORS: ERRORS.. ! ! 'REALLY DISHEARTENING. I've tried every thing and as much as I have enjoyed it in years passed, these days, it's really not RELIABLE. I am at the point of canceling my monthly SUBSCRIPTION.

    Summary

    Sadly, it's almost USELESS..........

"Good idea, buggy software, crappy service"

    August 27, 2011   |   By Karl32

    Version: Rhapsody 4.0

    Pros

    Great selection, subscription plan

    Cons

Worst software product ever! Wretched customer service

    Summary

I wonder if CNET even used the service for downloads ...

I've been a Rhapsody subscriber for 4 years.  It's OK for me, because I generally download 10-20 tracks a week.  Most I listen to for a while an discard, so it's a cost-effective way to try out new music on an extended basis without paying a fortune in phone bills for streaming music to my phone.

BUT ... the software is full of bugs.  It constantly freezes in mid-transfer, and generally will only download 80-90% of any given playlist.   Customer support is useless, and the problem has persisted for years.  We're given elaborate instructions to reinstall Windows Media Player, delete DRM files, update Windows components,  but nothing works.  Then they say to reformat your device and reload everything.  That works for a week or two, but then the downloads start freezing up again and you're back to square one.

I subscribe, as I've said, because it's a cost-effective way to get most of the music I want to listen to downloaded to MP3 without paying for each track. Potential subscribers should take notice and prepare themselves to accept the service for what it is.  Cheap, unstable, and frustrating.   That works for me, but may not for everyone.
