We have to admit that it had been years since we used RealPlayer, and we weren't quite sure what to expect from this version. Nor were we particularly excited about trying it out; we have a media player already, thank you, and what could RealPlayer possibly do that we hadn't already seen before? Quite a lot, it turns out. In addition to managing and playing your media, it can also download and convert videos, keep certain content private, and more.
RealPlayer has a sleek and intuitive interface that opened with a page touting its latest features. After a bit of exploration, we realized that RealPlayer could perform expected tasks, such as scanning for existing media on our computer, but that it was also capable of much more. If you've ever needed an easy way to download videos from the Web, RealPlayer can help; the program places a Download This Video button above content on sites like YouTube, and in a matter of moments users can download videos and convert them to a variety of other formats. Private Mode lets you download and store videos securely using a PIN, which is great if your taste in entertainment tends to fall on the mature side; once you exit Private Mode, videos that were downloaded in it are hidden from your library. The program also lets users sign into their Facebook account to view videos recently uploaded by friends. Combined with old standby features like CD burning and management tools for music, videos, and images, these new features make RealPlayer an innovative choice for users who are serious about media.

"Does what I need it to"

Pros
Surprised to see other reviews had problems with slow install and slow running. My install was very quick and I think it performs it's tasks pretty rapidly. If you download a standard You Tube music video the download is finished before the actual video is. You can then convert the vid into your choice of multiple audio only formats such as MP3. So in effect, you can get thousands of free songs for your MP3 player just off of You Tube alone. There's also a trimmer for your vids that is super easy to use. I think it's pretty cool, especially considering it's free.
Cons
It would be really cool if it would download TV shows. But there's a lot of good movies you can get on You Tube.
Summary
The first thing I realised about it was that it would play a lot of files that the stock Windows Media Player would not play. I had a lot of vid clips I'd gleened from the internet and most of them wouldn't play with the WMP. But as soon as I installed the RealPlayer I could play every one of them.All in all I think it's a great little product. And you're not gonna beat the price.

Downloaded this so I could download episodes of various shows from Syfy. No matter what I tried, it would only ever record the commercial at the beginning of the show. Tried various settings. Did online searches for a fix. Found several other people complaining of the same problem, but the suggested solutions were obviously put out there by people who didn't actually try to fix the problem themselves -- suggestions like "wait until the commercial is over before you click record." That doesnt' work, btw. Real also doesn't provide support, unless you pay for the "super" version, but it would be crazy to buy a copy when the free version doesn't work, right?

Summary
I was digging for software that could strip audio from a video and spent hours looking on CNet. Came across the RealPlayer review and discovered that RealPlayer could do what I needed and I already had it installed! I was surprised to find that I already had what I needed.

"Unable to install in XP"

None that I can list. It would not install on XP so I never got to use it.
Cons
It does not install on XP, tried every suggest the Technicians gave me, including removing Internet Explorer and using Firefox, then unintalling FireFox and using Internet Explorer. It did not matter, I tried at least six different ways and nothing would work.
Summary
I would not suggest it, however, they were kind enough to refund my payment with no hassle.
