You'll quickly learn the vagaries of the Cyrillic alphabet with this program, but trial limitations make the free download less than challenging. A good combination of written exercises and audio files help you master both penmanship and pronunciation. There's a few subtle differences between written and typed Russian, and this program helps you manage both. Lessons include recording your attempts at speaking characters and writing down those characters that you hear. During testing, we found a pen tablet was a handy tool for the writing exercises. We were a bit baffled at the order of lessons, however, as some of the more difficult listening tests come before easier multiple-choice quizzes. The trial version only includes three lessons, which we felt wasn't enough to really get a handle on the program's highlights. Overall, this is a good program for beginning Russian students who want to quickly master the Cyrillic alphabet.
