While we liked the functionality of this language program, it would be a better learning tool if it included audio files. ReadWrite Chinese teaches the intermediate language student 1,000 characters that are most commonly used. We say intermediate, as you'll need to have a basic understanding of Chinese pronunciation before using this program, since there are no audio files to practice with. One set of exercises does test your knowledge of Chinese tones--but it is only a written exercise. A video walks you through brush strokes and proper order when writing characters. A pen tablet will probably work best with this program, so you can get a better feel for penning complex characters. Overall, this is a great program for learning how to write Chinese characters, but those looking for pronunciation guides should seek other software.Publisher's description
From Declan Software :ReadWrite Chinese teaches the 1,000 most frequently Chinese characters. Both a simplified and traditional Chinese characters version of the program is available. The program features a flash-card-like review and a number of exercises to access progress. The exercises include meaning multiple choice, pronunciation multiple choice, tones multiple choice, a stroke-order test, and a character grid-search recoginition exercise. The program also features stroke-order animation for all 1,000 characters and an interactive stroke-order practice exercise. The program is based around a Learning List that groups a subset of the total 1,000 characters. This allows students to concentrate their efforts on a smaller number of characters at any one time. A character moves off the Learning List after it has been learned, and is automatically replaced by an, as of yet, unlearned character. Users can modify the size of the learning list by manually adding or removing characters.
