CNET editors' review

Reviewed by: CNET Staff

If you want to edit a raster file in your CAD program, you first have to convert it to a vector file. RasterVect does just that, transforming paper drawings into a vector format. It looks like a typical graphics program, with toolbars and floating palettes, but its many editing functions will keep you satisfied. You can rotate and crop images, change colors, and add various effects. The interface is well organized, with all editing features, including raster tools, located in the main menu. The most important palettes, with tools such as zooming, painting, and scrolling, appear by default on the right side of the screen. We found the tutorial helpful, with plenty of detailed examples and explanations. RasterVect also offers TWAIN support for importing images directly from scanners. Given all these tools and features, when it comes to vector-image editors, this program takes the cake.

Publisher's description

From RasterVect Software :

RasterVect can transform any raster image into a vector format. Raster drawings (BMP, TIFF, JPEG, PCX, GIF, PNG, PSD and so on) can be imported by scanning original paper drawings from any scanner with TWAIN or WIA support. The target vector formats (DXF, WMF, EMF, EPS, and AI) are supported by most CAD applications that use vector graphics, such as AutoCAD and CorelDraw. Viewing tools include zooming, scrolling, and color selection. The program has four conversion methods (including outlines and centerlines); keeps the scale of an initial drawing; can correct a turn angle of an initial raster drawing; has various raster filters (despeckle, smoothing, median, hole removing); and has vector- and raster-editing capabilities.
