- "Random House Webster's College Dictionary - Word Genius"
- Version reviewed: Random House Webster's College Dictionary - Word Genius 4.6
With this simple dictionary tool, you'll never get stumped for words again. Word Genius uses 207,000 entries from Random House Webster's College Dictionary to keep your spelling and meaning straight. To define an unfamiliar word, simply type it in or drag and drop it from another application.
Crossword buffs will appreciate that Word Genius supports single- and multiple-character wildcard searches. And the reverse-lookup feature, where you provide the definition, gives the program some of the power of a thesaurus. Unfortunately, Word Genius lacks a text-to-speech feature (though the help file provides a useful guide to dictionary pronunciation symbols). Nor can it suggest correct spellings.
Moreover, Word Genius must compete with free online tools that offer similar features. But if you're looking for an electronic dictionary to use offline, this little program is powerful and user-friendly enough for a try.
