CNET Editors' review
You'll need Firefox for this free RSS reader to work, but it's worth adding the browser to take advantage of this flexible, intuitive, and easy-to-use program.
RSS Captor defaults to a familiar three-pane interface. While there are numerous options, tabs and a clean, simple toolbar ease the learning curve. The simple but informative Help file should answer most questions. Feeds are listed on the left, a list of stories on the top right, and details on the lower right. Tabs offer quick access to sections where you can set up folders for automatically saved messages and manually saved messages. The RSS Feed tab holds all of your feeds. RSS Captor comes preloaded with more than 10 news feeds from popular sites such as CNN, Forbes, and the New York Times. RSS Captor excels with its options for sorting, filtering, and searching stories. It comes with several groups to organize your feeds, and you can easily add your own. When you select a feed you'll see a list of new feeds with their dates. Select a feed to see the first few sentences of the story. The full story isn't available within the program, but there are quick links to access them through Firefox. Adding a feed is simple, with options to add manually or import from an OPML or RSS file, and you can easily specify how frequently it's checked and to which group it should be added.
RSS Captor doesn't work without Firefox. It's easy enough for the novice to understand, but has plenty of features to keep the more experienced user happy.

"Database file? What database file?"
Version: RSS Captor 3.09
Pros
None - I couldn't get it to work
Cons
Installs but you can't run it without its own database file?????
Summary
Installation seemed to go fine. But the first time I tried to run it it asked to create a database. I really didn't know what it was talking about (database? It's an RSS reader, why does it need a database?) but since I had an XML file exported from Google's Reader sitting on the desktop I figured that must be what it was looking for, so I clicked "Yes." That took me to a standard "browse & select" routine - but it couldn't find the XML file. So I clicked "Cancel" thinking I should set it up from inside the program - and the program closed! After three tries of this I tried clicking "Help" but the explanation it gave there was completely unhelpful. Apparently it's looking for its own database file - which of course I don't have since I just installed the program!
Since I don't like to keep useless software active I went ahead and uninstalled it. Another one for the "5-minute" list. -
