RSS is like a drug for news junkies, allowing headlines, blog posts, and podcasts to be sent automatically to a computer's desktop every day. RSS Bandit is a freeware software program for subscribing, managing, and reading this flow of news.
It has many attractive features, allowing a user to merge news headlines from multiple sources onto a single page and organize articles based on keyword, read/unread status, and age. We liked the built-in tabbed browser that allows a user to read the full article and search for new newsfeeds without quitting the program. Adding newfeeds is a simple one-click action, and the software lets users customize frequency and display settings for each individual feed. Once those settings are chosen, the program updates automatically and can display alerts whenever a new headline is available.
We would have liked to see a more flexible search capability, and the internal browser could have used an address bar to make Web navigation a bit easier, but on the whole RSS Bandit is an attractive choice for Web news hounds.
Publisher's description
From RSS Bandit Team :RSS Bandit is an RSS and Atom reader written with the .NET Framework. Features include the ability to view news items in customizable newspaper views, the ability to synchronize the read and unread state of the application across multiple computers via Google Reader or NewsGator Online, the ability to expire items so they get deleted after a certain amount of days, fine grained control of how often items are downloaded, support for password protected feeds, reduced bandwidth consumption by using HTTP conditional GETs and GZIP encoding, search folders, viewing comments directly in the reader without going to the site, posting comments from the reader, integrated Web search, tabbed browsing, and security settings for disabling unsafe browser features like ActiveX.
What's new in this version:
The recent releases of RSS Bandit (v1.8.0.855 and v1.8.0.862) contained a bug which caused users to lose their feed lists on upgrading. In addition, there were some user interface changes that made it look like feed subscriptions were missing when they were in fact there. This version fixes both of these issues.More popular Newsreaders & RSS Readers downloads

Version: RSS Bandit 1.8.0.870
Pros: No idea. Couldn't install it.
Cons: Doesn't do what it says on the tin.
Summary: Despite what it says, it won't run on Windows 2000. To be more precise, it requires dotNet Framework 3.5 which will not install on Win2K

Version: RSS Bandit 1.8.0.870
"works well, loads VERY slowly"
Pros: Keeps feeds well organized.
Cons: Loads SLOWLY, preloaded feeds need cleaning out
Summary: The slow loading time is no doubt due to the use of the .NET runtimes. But it takes forever to start compared to FeedDemon. Also, I could do without the preloaded feeds. I suppose some might need that but seems like anyone looking for a feed reader ... read more >>
