Functional and easy to use, this utility makes an exact copy of your disk in case your system crashes or you need to transfer it to another hard drive. R-Drive Image belongs to the latest generation of backup programs, which go about their business without making you stop or restart Windows. If necessary, you can restore the system disk by running the program from rescue diskettes or a CD. R-Drive Image performed well in our tests, compressing and password-protecting disk images as well as splitting them to store on a CD or a DVD. It also can schedule backups to ensure continuous protection of your data. If you need to restore only a few files, the full program purportedly lets you mount the image as a virtual drive for viewing and copying files. The simple wizard interface makes R-Drive Image easy enough for beginners, though we did wish it would display the amount of time remaining in each backup. All in all, though, this drive imager is a good bet for home or small-office use.Publisher's description
From R-tools Technology :R-Drive Image creates disk image files for backup or duplication purposes. Disk image file contains exact, byte-by-byte copy of a hard drive, partition or logical disk and can be created with various compression levels on the fly without stopping Windows OS. These drive image files can then be stored in a variety of places, including various removable media.
R-Drive Image is capable of restoring images on the original disks, on any other partitions or even on a hard drive's free space. R-Drive Image creates a special bootable diskette to restore system partition. To restore only certain files from a disk image, you can connect the image as a virtual disk and copy those files directly from the disk image using Windows Explorer or any other file utility. A free 15-day trial version allows you to verify all R-Drive Image capabilities except creation and restoration a disk image when R-Drive Image is launched from a bootable floppy disk created by the trial version. Version 4.3 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

Version: R-Drive Image 4.3
Pros: I found very useful its support for USB 2.0 external HDD boxes in the "startup mode" used to create images for locked system disks and to restore data to such disks. You do not need anymore to rely your important backup data on such unreliable media as CD/DVD discs.
