I like that it does not cause ass cancer.

I bought a new laptop at Christmas. I decided this year I would not enable Quicktime since I did not feel the need to have a spyware program reporting my viewing habits to Apple. My new laptop had a nervous breakdown. This stupid software was so wrapped into this computer that as soon as I got rid of one component it would re-install itself surreptitiously at the next reboot.
People say that MS is bad? This crap is a bloated slow piece of psuedo spyware that does everything it can to change your video settings to play every extension it's able to. I have it completely wiped clear now and I do not miss it a bit.
And please. Will someone tell Steve Jobs to stick I-Tunes where it does not shine. You should be able to just say no.

It's able to play some movie files.
Cons
It's nothing when compared to VLC.
In addition, QT pro is $30, about 35MB, and plays back kind of choppy on some machines I've tested it on. Tested VLC on the same machines with impressive results. VLC is free, under 10MB and not only does it play back smoothly, it plays back more formats than any other player I know of. And finally, if you want to play files in HD with QuickTime, you're going to need to get codecs for that. VLC doesn't require other codecs, it just plays.

This program enables you to capture, save, and modify some video files. It works well with iTunes. It is stable: it has not crashed.
Cons
Does not play most of the more common files including *.AVI and *.MP4 files. VLC plays more file formats and with less problems than QuickTime.

1. It is SLOW to load - slower than ANY other Media Player out there.
2. Latest version has limitations marked "Pro" now - so it is crippled now.
3. Doesn't play many media files at all. VERY limited use.
4. tied in with the ITunes con which is a total waste of time, crap sound quality rip-off that can only be merchandised to 10-14 year old CHILDREN who haven't learned what GOOD SOUND QUALITY REALLY IS yet.
5. Real Player plays .MOV files better than Quicktime!
6. The last version that was any good was version 3.0 - about 8 years ago - NO IMPROVEMENT SINCE.
7. It's slower all round than earlier versions despite faster computers and more RAM available today - Figure that!!!!
8. Overall it continues to be the world's most USELESS media player which unfortunatly you have to have installed to play .MOV files which are everywhere.

Forces you to install itunes,which i dont want.Be sure to uninstall quicktime 6 prior to install of this version or it wont install.There is no content for H.264 yet except trailers so I don't see what the big deal is(also try wmvhd.com for microsoft's hd).It's from apple lol.
