Version: Primedius WebTunnel 6.17
"So nearly an excellent utility"
Pros: I've been using the latest Primedius for a few weeks now and feel I've used it enough to pass comment.
This application downloaded and installed without incident, and once running seems to do exactly what it promises. I can't say for certain if it really makes my surfing anonymous, since I don't tend to do anything on the internet which anyone else would be particularly interested in monitoring; I'm simply someone who values privacy, but I've no reason to believe it isn't working. A visit to "Shields Up!" shows that it is indeed hiding my IP address, and various other utilities confirm that it is allowing me to surf anonymously. I had reason to contact Primedius technical support to help with some of the setup and am pleased to report that their response was both timely and helpful, if a little too concice.
Using Primedius slowed down my connection a bit, but not disasterously, and considering what its doing, you can certainly live with it.
Cons: This application is only really let down in two areas: the way it starts up, and the settings dialogue. When Primedius starts up it first brings up a dialogue box informing you that it is starting, which requires you to click "OK" to proceed - why? As it starts a window appears showing its startup progress after which, if it has connected successfully, another dialogue box appears telling you that it has connected successfully, requiring you to click "OK" - again, why?? It would be much better if it had the ability to start up and run as a background process without all the silly dialogue boxes.
My other criticism of this application comes from the interface, which I find frustrating to use. When you change a setting on Primedius there is no "apply" button to submit the changes, which always leaves me with the nagging suspicion that my changes haven't taken effect. This was especially frustrating as I tried (unsuccessfully) to get it to work with Newsrover. The Help section has obviously been written by the developers themselves, and (speaking as someone who employs software developers), who have made the classic software developer mistake of assuming that the end user understands more about computers than he actually does. I found the Help feature in Primedius to be singularly unhelpful.
In summary, if this application had a slightly more elegant way of starting up, and they got some non-techies to write the help manual, I would have no hesitation giving it 5 stars

Version: Primedius WebTunnel 6.17
"It does all it claims and is very fast and effective"
Pros: I think 1MB limit is a bit low. But since you can use it for a while, it gives plenty of time to evaluate. It is more than any other I have seen. I also had initial speed problem and contacted their support and found out my firewall and popup blocker needed to be configed. I think this is an excllent product with effective support and since it has been around for a long time, it is credible.
Cons: Needs a bit of config and tuning before it starts humming

"Does as it says but the 1MB trial limit filled up real fast!"
Pros: It really gives another IP address on your behalf. Check using WhatisMyIp.com
Cons: Slow down the surfing speed considerably.
My 256K cable connection becomes 56k speed. The 1MB daily limit can be up in a few minutes. You need to login to their website to use the software but the login not always work! I have to reinstall it twice, and you need another email address.
Considering it only does one thing for you, I think it is an expensive software.
