Its wide range of formats and functions help PowerArchiver compete in a category dominated by WinZip. The archive utility supports a large number of compression formats, including the new 7-Zip format, which offers extremely high compression ratios. You also can encrypt your archives using one of five secure algorithms. The program works swiftly and reliably. The configuration menu lets you customize almost every feature, including a password manager for encrypted archives, a self-extracting wizard, and an autobackup tool. The batch ZIP tool compresses hundreds of files in one shot, and the multi-extract tool unpacks hundreds of archives at once. The program now supports unlimited-size ZIP archives. Anyone who needs to work with archive files will find PowerArchiver a versatile, affordable alternative.Publisher's description

Version: PowerArchiver 9.20.07
"Best compression utility available!"
Pros: Intuitive interface. Very customizable app. Skinnable toolbar. Supports lots of file types. It's obviously better than WinZip, and much cheaper too. I also have WinZip, because I believe two is better than one. It's excellent, so I bought it.
NOTE: And to the superstitious ones, you can download this now. It's not 9.11 anymore, yeesh!
Cons: None at all, except that when adding items to an archive it sometimes hangs.

Version: PowerArchiver 9.20.07
Pros: I would recommend this over Winzip because it supports RAR files. If you are using Winzip and needs RAR support, you have to pay for WinRAR so why bother. Just get this program which supports many other formats other than ZIP and RAR. Nice interface with skin support. Also the integration with Windows Explorer works perfectly. Why have 2 programs(WINZIP, WINRAR) installed, just install this one.

"supports large number of formats, very customizable software."
Pros: 1) supports almost all type of compression formats.
2)wide customization options. (sometimes might be little confusing though)
3) Explorer view is awesome. simplifies browsing compressed files.
4) overall much better than winzip (even in terms of cost)
Cons: 1) Cannot write rar, can only read it. so winrar is required.
2) I suggest using winrar + powerarchiver...no need of winzip
