    May 12, 2011   |   By luizantoine

Version: PostCast Server Free Edition 2.6.0

    Pros

lots of trouble naively trying to configure

    Cons

never worked - no technical support - money lost

    Summary

Lots of time lost - don't belive what is said on their site -it does not stand up for what is claimed from this elusive "software" maker. 150 bucks lost.

"Not really what most people would be after"

    March 05, 2009   |   By Juxtapose

Version: PostCast Server Free Edition 2.6.0

    Pros

If you are reading this, you probably want a free SMTP server for outgoing mail. This thing can sort of do it, provided you have some spare time to manually go through loads of options setting it up

    Cons

HArd to use, does not really work all of the time, crashes lots, not compatible with 64 bit, intended for a single user only

    Summary

If you are reading this you are probably looking for a decent SMTP server for outgoing mail. This isnt it. ITs simply too hard for anyone but a mail server expert to use, and its not reliable enough to put in all the effort for. Try either QK SMTP for like $30 or Capesoft Mail Server for like $80.

    "Hard to Configure, won't uninstall"

    December 04, 2008   |   By sj12pearl

Version: PostCast Server Free Edition 2.6.0

    Pros

    It's Free.

    Cons

Hard to configure w/outlook Many servers reject emails from pc servers Created bug in Outlook that kept asking for a postcast file the system couldn't find

Then, when you try to uninstall the thing, it can't find all of the uninstall files either.

    Summary

    Use at your own risk.

"Sorry it is not a solution"

    August 15, 2008   |   By al4b

Version: PostCast Server Free Edition 2.6.0

    Pros

    Easy to install

    Cons

Because of all the spam many (many many) mail servers will authenticate your SMTP server. You will be rejected, mail will not go through. Worst PostCast will not report that the email was rejected.

    July 07, 2007   |   By bryntowns

Version: PostCast Server Free Edition 2.6.0

    Pros

    Nothing

If I could award this minus stars I would. This is an absolute piece of junk! Once installed it won't uninstall and constantly tries to open whenever you open other programs. Absolute RUBBISH - AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

    "Seems like a mighty program..."

    February 01, 2007   |   By Shaker1978

Version: PostCast Server Free Edition 2.6.0

    Pros

It sure is a good mail server, once you have configured it. It has a lot of features and looks pretty professional.

    Cons

I miss the user management, which I already have seen in a freeware mail server. For some reason, I cannot choose Start/Stop/Pause anymore. Summary: Too complicated for private use.

    "Very Very Good"

    November 24, 2006   |   By dutchdavey

Version: PostCast Server Free Edition 2.6.0

    Pros

    Good Installation, works well.

Ive been sending email for years from a different domain to the one in my email address and Ive never had the problems shown in other reviews here.

When yahoo started getting funny about accepting my email with a different (non-yahoo) 'from' address I got this product. Means yahoo can't infect my email anymore with their banaal adverts, but I can still pop thru Yahoo.

    Works like a dream!

I found myself listed on the CBL (as a possible spam leak - to be expected), but a bit of tweaking with ports and my firewall and that went away too. One nag popup to register, but you can also unsubscribe from the resulting 'product' info emails (as the popup also makes clear)

very Good, First Class (and Freeeeeeee)

    Cons

    Bit Big

"Works beautifully, set-up is a snap"

    October 11, 2006   |   By sbirkby

Version: PostCast Server Free Edition 2.6.0

    Pros

If you follow the straightforward setup wizard, you can be sending mail in minutes. It doesn't take up much memory in my machine and performance is fine. You have to be aware that some (receiving) mail servers only accept mail from IP addresses they can resolve to the same domain you say you are sending from. The program has setup options to facilitate that and it works well for me.

    Cons

Although this is a free product, it is quite sophisticated and therefore setup can get complex if you want to do something non-standard. But hey, if you're not down with that and capable, maybe you shouldn't be trying to set up your own SMTP server ...
