Although it's good to see a utility that deals with spyware and the pop-ups that often come with it, Pop Up Blocker Pro and Spyware Detector left us unimpressed with its functionality. We like that it works with both Internet Explorer and Netscape, and it offers good configuration options on installation. However, we found its spyware detection inadequate. It blocked some spyware but didn't stop widespread parasites such as CashBack and MySearch. Pop Up Blocker Pro and Spyware Detector also does not remove any spyware; you'll need another application to clean your system. We aren't impressed by its pop-up blocking, either. Although it takes care of the usual suspects, it doesn't stop floating ads. In our tests, it also blocked legitimate pop-ups that should have launched from a link. In the saturated area of pop-up blocking, this program doesn't compete all that well.Publisher's Description

I don't have much good to say about this program. The program has A LOT of false positives and I suspect it doesn't catch anything that is really a hazard.
Here are some examples: I put in a commercial DVD. Spyware Detector tried to quarantine the autorun.inf file. I also have an inaccessible (read only) hard drive on my system. There are no software overrides to write to this drive. It attempted to quarantine stuff there. It also created files that it deletes. After having two critical OS and Firewall programs clobbered by this program and numerous system crashes, I ended up removing it from my computer.
As a programmer, I can only say my suspicion is the creators of this software are either ****-poor or engaged in a fraud scheme. -
"Avoid at all costs"

This program caused a popup to appear on about half the websites visited. The popup had to be clicked away (sometimes several times), whereupon a message appeared saying that I was not authorised to view the site. This message took up a screenful of space, meaning that I had then to scroll down to see the site's contents (which were actually visible).
The techie people from Spyware Detector took over my PC via LetMeIn for over a day (during which time I lost work), but were unable to solve the problem. They didn't get back to me any more (as they were obviously stumped) and I am now trying to get a refund - but no joy so far.

I tried this software and found I didn't like it. It took me hours to get my machine running correctly after using. They offer 30-day "no questions asked" money-back guarantee.
THEY DO NOT HONOR THIS!!!!!! I tried for over a month to get a refund and they just kept asking me what technical issues I had.

Adware spyware programs installed to easy to list a solid pro. Did catch 1 or 2 larger known spywares.
Cons
Had too much get by the system. Needs a hug database upgrade. Also let in floaters (pop-ups) and more complicated ads.

Never used Spyware Detector. I used it and could NEVER connect with the internet (dsl) afterwards. The only way I could resolve it was by formatting my hard drive and reinstalling everything.

Summary
This product is made by A1Tech, the same people that make AdsGone. I was dumb and didn't look at the screenshot before I downloaded the free trial, otherwise I would have seen that it's the same screen. It's about as ineffective as AdsGone, see my review there.

it didn't block ANYTHING, I was so frustrated...I got more pop-ups and it caused a problem with my Favorites file...just be careful....
