Version: Plaxo 2.0
"1984, Matrix, Borg, now Plaxo???"
Pros: I didn't like a thing, but I've read a dozen or so reviews that people say it helps them organize contact in Outlook & Outlook Express. I was impressed by the dozens of Plaxo sponsored websights that state the case of why the software isn't spyware and is very valuable. It is a little like a Jedi telling the weak minded, "You will enjoy our software". Maybe it's more like a "We will assimilate you" kind of thing.
If I have to say something positive, then it is that I didn't find anything directly related to Plaxo in my Ad-aware scan after I uninstalled it.
Cons: From the other reviews I've read you either love this software or you hate it. I haven't found anyone who was on the fence. This software installed when I installed AOL's Instant messenger (AIM) to meet with some friends for an online baseball draft. AIM was trying to take over my associations and even though I could opt out, it was not easy. Later when I wanted to check email this screen for Plaxo came on the screen to install itself. It wouldn't cancel and I couldn't close with the little "X" in the top right of the window. I tried to minimize it to look up information on this "plaxo" but it was always on top. I relented and let it install. Bad decision. It then said it was going through a 3 step process to make me part of the program, it added a toolbar in Outlook, it scanned my email addresses and it was about to send a message to everyone on my list. Here's where I drew the line. I did a Control, alt, delete and got it to stop. Unlike others I read about, I was able to uninstall it.
I honestly don't know if this is worthwhile software or not but my inclination is to think not. The combination of the two programs that begins with trying to replace your browser and other associations, attempts to install "features" without permission, attempts to (I assume) enlist everyone in your address book without your permission led me to be highly suspicious. I've had too much malware, spyware, hijackers, and viruses on my computers to trust ANYONE with all of my information AND that of my friends and colleagues. I still don't know it processed my information or not.

Summary: Awesome way to synchronize my home life and my work life automatically via the Internet. Although I didn't find a need to synchronize my notes, merging my calendar, tasks, and contacts is a breeze. Now my right hand knows what the left hand is doi... read more >>
