Publisher's Description
From Open Sword Group:
For small-scale or high-detail art, there are only a few ways to create, and those kludgy. Zooming in really far in a normal graphics editor works, but sucks: the extra UI provided by the app just ends up getting in the way. Using a photo retouching app to do the sort of pixel-level work required of a sprite artist is also suboptimal. There is no pixel-art-specific graphics app for Mac OS X. That's why we wrote Pixen. Pixen is a graphics editor for the creation of such art, and is attuned to that form employed extensively in two-dimensional games.
What's new in this version:
- Added support for selections, cut, copy, and paste.
- Added Rectangular Selection tool.
- Added tooltips for each tool that show the tool's name and its key switching shortcut.
- Fixed bugs in archiving, backgrounds, and the preview window.
- Added basic framework for Forms architecture.

"Doesn't seem to want to open under OS10.5.8"
Version: Pixen 3.5
Pros
I'd love to use it, if only I could.
Cons
Doesn't want to open under OS10.5.8 I get a 'crossed-out' application icon as if it's a Snow Leopard only application. What gives?

"Better and better"
Version: Pixen 3.0
Summary

Great interface improvement. The pressure support for graphic tablets and transparency are quite remarkable.
The animation is not already very stable when using layers and the GIF animation export is terribly slow, but a good start for this new feature. -

This is a great software! I recommend it! -
"Wanna do PixelArt? Got OS X? Choose this."
Version: Pixen r2v4
Summary

This application has been very well thought out. It does everything a pixel art editor should and no more. All done in an easy to use aqua interface, and as far as imaging programs go this uses almost no CPU. -
"Awesome at what it does."
Version: Pixen r2v3

This is a great program for when you need to make anything small. I have Photoshop CS on here, but whenever I need to do pixel art, Pixen is what I use. -

"Promising"
Version: Pixen r1v10
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This program looks very promising. As it gets more features and improves it will become the best way for pixel drawing.
At the moment though, the only reason that i use this rather than photoshop is because photoshop can only do vector lines, instead of just using normal pixels.
Pixen's interface is less clogged up though (compared to photoshop), which enables me to use more of the screen usefully.
Keep up the good work! -
"Better"
Version: Pixen r1v10
Summary

r1v10 is better... select all and delete key work.. with ability to save in a few formats. It's much more usable. I'm still not thrilled with the transparency mouse-over feature, but that may just be me. -
"uh-uh"
Version: Pixen r1v9
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Not very useful here. The transparency indicator flickers based upon mouse position, very annoying behavior. Drop down % list won't stay dropped down long enought o actually use it. Common (and I mean REAL common) commands just dont' work... things liek command-a, and the delete key. Seems like the basics of standard Macintosh applications have been ignored. I deleted it from my drive, it was useless.
