From CinchWorks :Protect yourself and others from accidental or intentional exposure to pornographic images on the Internet. PicBlock blocks pornographic images from displaying in any e-mail client or Web browser. Unlike traditional porn blocking tools that limit your choice of image search engine or rely on constantly outdated blacklists, PicBlock blocks porn by detecting the amount of flesh tones in images. To supplement objectionable image detection, PicBlock also detects sexually explicit keywords in multiple languages, resulting in a powerful, two-pronged approach to filtering out pornographic content. Features include: - Detects objectionable images in web pages- Supplemental filtering for objectionable words in dozens of languages- Facial recognition helps reduce false positives- Customizable filtering sensitivity levels - Administrator password to limit access to configuration menus.
Version 3 added ability to import, export, add, and remove words and URLs to the white/black lists, added an option to automatically check for updates, ability to filter out keywords in URLs, block ALL URLs except those find in the URL white list and additional countermeasures for preventing non-privileged users from disabling the program.

Version: PicBlock 3
Pros: A cool, free alternative to the bloated parental control tools on the market. I love the fact that my daughter can still use search engines for her homework assignment, and know she'll be protected. It does a good job of blocking images - tested by using MSN and Google image search with strict control turned off, and searched for terms such as nude, naked, bikini, etc. and it blocked virtually all of image results. Yet innocuous pictures were not blocked (for the most part). I couldn't tell how well the image blocking worked on regular word searches because picblockā??s bad word filtering kept blocking any sexually explicit word I tried, in both English and Spanish. I'm pretty happy with it so far.
Cons: Sometimes benign images are blocked. When that happens I usually unblock them and then add the web site to picblock's "safe" list. That way my kids don't ask me 10 times a day to unblock some wrongly blocked image.
