Personal Data Vault is an impressive program that keeps your personal files, passwords, and login information safe, and allows you to securely destroy sensitive documents. The clean, easy-to-use interface presents folders in a tree-like form, and it's simple to select items you want to safeguard. We were pleased to find it automatically deletes a file once it's moved into storage, with no less than eight shredding algorithms for ensuring secure file removal. The ability to store Web login information and passwords makes this program an all-in-one security tool. The program goes the extra step not only by creating backups, but by applying the same level of security to them as your original secured vault does. You also can set a time limit for inactivity and automatically close the vault, which is perfect for users who frequently leave their computers unattended. This cheap yet very efficient tool is suitable for any user who wants to safeguard his or her sensitive data.Publisher's description
From Tenebril :Personal Data Vault (PDV) acts as a safe-deposit box for your confidential documents. It encrypts and password-protects your data, providing a single, secure place to store your sensitive information. The Personal Data Vault shreds deleted files to Dept of Defense standards to ensure that they are destroyed beyond recovery. PDV even protects your data from loss by running backups, and it supports a wide array of media (CD ROMs, DVDs, removable disks and more); data in backup copies is encrypted at the same level of security as the original file. The Passwords folder keeps an organized list of Web sites, login info and passwords in one location. An Automation section guarantees that you never leave your vault open, and another option assures that you only have one copy of a confidential document by securely deleting a file once it is dragged into your vault. The Personal Data Vault even enables you to edit files from within the vault for maximum convenience. Finally, a digital lockbox.

"It's good for what I need it for!"
Pros: All I wanted was a secure place to keep all of my passwords. It does that... and I soon will try keeping files and documents as well. But for now, it's all I need!

"Whatever you do don't lose the order code!"
Pros: Average vault
Cons: You have to re-unlock this vault EVERYTIME you use a different IP or wifi! Which means you have to carry around the original order code anytime you travel.

"Stopped working after a couple of years."
Pros: Seemed to work OK for a year and a half
Cons: suddenly stop working someday asking for a license code even though you have a valid license.
Summary: Don't use this product for anything important. Tenebril support was unable to resolve the problem even though they acknowledged I had a valid license. Spent months of going back and forth with them. Now they don't even bother to reply to emails s... read more >>
