Maintaining proper disk hygiene is like going to the dentist: You do it because you have to, but it's rarely easy and almost never pleasant. PerfectDisk is a friendly alternative that picks up where Windows' Disk Defragmenter leaves off, adding powerful features, an attractive interface, and a top-notch help file with clear instructions and definitions.

In addition to the standard defragmentation process, it offers a SmartPlacement option, which analyzes usage patterns and organizes data to minimize future fragmentation. Another useful option is offline defragmentation, which optimizes parts of the drive, such as the Master File Table and the page file, that can't be modified while Windows is running. On your next bootup, PerfectDisk takes over, optimizes the selected files, and lets Windows proceed with start-up. The interface features big buttons, bold but complimentary colors, and is short on drawbacks.

The program also offers statistical analysis, scheduled maintenance, and the ability to defragment remote computers running another copy of PerfectDisk. That last feature is perfect for IT staffers, but we recommend the app to home users, too. At its price, PerfectDisk isn't a bargain--but getting this close to perfect doesn't come cheap.

"PERFECT DISK is, well ~ "PERFECT" ~ Hi Wendy! Hi Susie!"

October 20, 2009  |  By Michael_The_Magician

 |  Version: PerfectDisk 10.0

Pros

Worth far more than the cost!
Easy to install and use!
Runs in the background seamlessly, using very few resources!
Defrags very fast on a well maintained Hard Drive.
User interface very easy to understand & just chock full of important information!

Cons

The only Con I can think of is that it isn't free. But then you get what you pay for, don't you? Raxco doesn't charge much at all for all the value you get, both in Software AND Support!

Summary

I have been using PerfectDisk for at least the last 4 iterations of the product. In my book, Raxco and her employees are just #1! With service and product beyond compare! I find that all the software I have purchased from Raxco has served my needs with MORE THAN 110% perfection and the one glitch that surfaced (caused by a
software product from another company) was handled immediately by tech support and the repair patch that I was sent worked perfectly! Setup was ultra easy! My advice for the previous commenter who was so in love with PerfectDisk 8 would be to re-install PD8 (UN-INSTALL PD10 FIRST). Then Email or call Raxco and present your
opinion in a pleasant manner... Since I don't work there, I can't guarantee it, but I bet if you ask for it, they will give you a refund. You say you didn't save your PD8 Installer? NEXT TIME YOU'LL KNOW BETTER! Ask Customer service... they MIGHT be able to provide you with a PD8 Installer. Customer Service at Raxco is the best I've ever experienced! They even gave me a retroactive discount when I was one hour late for signing up! Call Raxco ~ 800-546-9728 ~ ask the operator for Wendy Clontz or x7806. The same accolade goes for Tech support! I called Susie Colon when that glitch came up and I had the aforementioned patch in my Email inbox in 10 MINUTES! If you have ANY PROBLEM with ANY Raxco product, I recommend you "CALL RAXCO!" ~ 1-800-546-972.

Particular recognition for service "Above and beyond the call of duty" should go to Wendy Clontz and Susie Colon... Thank you Ladies for ALL your great help!

I have read all the reviews (29 of them at this writing, 30 after I post this) and it seems as tho a lot of the most recent posters have little good to say about this product, but IMHO, I believe that if you have a gripe about PD10 you should call Customer Support and or Technical Support (You've got 30 days to try the product for FREE before you need to spend your money) after your 30 day FREE TRIAL, if you don't like the product, you shouldn't buy it! I recommend you read ALL of the reviews of this software! If you do, I'm fairly sure you will decide that this software is the best for the job and that Raxco Customer Support and Technical Support are THE BEST in the industry!!

As I mentioned above, Raxco is #1 in my book and I am their customer for life! I am not an employee of Raxco or a shill... I am just a VERY SATISFIED CUSTOMER!

My most fond wish in all the whole world is that Raxco could find the time to create a Firewall and/or Anti-Malware product that works as well as PerfectDisk does in the "Defrag" world! We could all be in 'Hog Heaven' then!!

Oh!! One thing I forgot to mention!... The PerfectDisk 10 FREE Download for you to test and try for 30 days at no cost is NOT "Crippleware" like so many other products are! The PerfectDisk 10 FREE trial provides you with software that provides you with all the functions available in the Paid version. The FREE version also provides you with all the Customer Service and Tech Support you could want or need, included in the price... $0.00 Best deal on the planet!!

Too bad we can't test used cars or politicians under the same terms!!

"Crashes system when overclocked"

October 19, 2009  |  By ski-bum

 |  Version: PerfectDisk 10.0

Pros

defraged system

Cons

I didn't know why I couldn't OC my system anymore so I did a complete reformat and reinstall. Everything was fine until I installed PerfectDisk 10 again. The same problems returned. After removing this product the problems went away.

Summary

Do not use if you overclock your system.

"Tried others but this is absolutely THE MOST effective!"

October 09, 2009  |  By coffenilli

 |  Version: PerfectDisk 10.0

Pros

Set up was easy. Ability to schedule defrags and running in background while not using much memory. Many options and features to tinker with. A joy to have that secure feeling that my PC is being looked after.

Cons

None, really.

Summary

Well, for those that want extreme simplicity then stick with Windows Defragger. For those that need something better and sacrifice some time for set up, then this is the one!!! Nothing better on the market.

"Long time user...each version gets better and better!"

September 18, 2009  |  By bobmitmen

 |  Version: PerfectDisk 10.0

Pros

Pefectdisk as always been "perfect" for me. I switched over from another defragger years ago and will never use anything but Perfectdisk. Performance has always been excellent with Perfectdisk. Customer service from PD is STELLAR!

Cons

NONE! Plain and simple.

Summary

I have been a Perfectdisk user for at least the past five generations of the software. It beats the competition hands down. Each version gets better and the Perfectdisk crew listens to input and makes adjustments. With Perfectdisk, they constantly strive to imporve an already Excellent product. With the other guys, you wait months for a reply for the most simple question. Perfectdisk support is almost immediate. What can you say...an A+ product with excellent support. That is what it is supposed to be all about. Raxco cannot be beat...

"Disappointing product"

September 13, 2009  |  By flumoxed

 |  Version: PerfectDisk 10.0

Pros

Inexpensive

Cons

1. 325-page User Guide!
2. Extensively modifies Registry
3. Doesn't do 100% uninstall
4. Very slow
5. Doesn't do SMART Placement AND Recover Free Space in one operation

Summary

The main reason I was interested in this product was because, unlike Microsoft's Defrag, PD10 can recover valuable hard disk space. However, a three-week evaluation left me quite disappointed.

The first thing that put me off PD10 was the huge User Guide. My Dell PC has a 78-page detailed guide that lets me maintain, repair and upgrade it. So, why do I need a 325-page guide to use some utility software?

The software is installed into a folder labeled "Raxco". This is Shareware-style programming for second-grade software, and the folder isn't removed when the product is uninstalled. That is poor programming..

The "SMART Placement" selection never reclaimed free space according to the graphic display, while the "Recover Free Space" selection seemed to screw up the prior SMART Placement result. And while defragging, it made two passes over the same file which made it very slow.

I wonder why so many people are raving about this product. Perhaps because it "looks good"?

"Defragmentation made easy"

September 09, 2009  |  By mikeout

 |  Version: PerfectDisk 10.0

Pros

Very simple set-up, un-intrusive, low system overheads, truly set and forget. Does a very good job of defragmentating drives and keeping them defragged. Stable in both XP and Vista environments. Priced sensibly. Ideal for inexperienced and pro.

Cons

After months of using this product - I have nothing negative to say.

Summary

PerfectDisk is a superb product. I have used defragmentation software for many years ? primarily DiskKeeper, and as an experienced user feel able to comment. My comment would be that this is a fantastic product! I have taken DiskKeeper;'s software off my small home network, and replaced with PerfectDisk and here is why:

Ease of set-up
Less intrusive
Lower overheads
Truly ?set and forget?
Seemingly does a better job of defragmentation
Stable
Well priced

DiskKeeper is not a bad product - PerfectDisk is just that bit better!

Sorry about the spurious "?"'s - typing in low light and not checking. They don't mean anything :-)

"This is the best defragmenting program I have ever used"

September 07, 2009  |  By whitelockdj

 |  Version: PerfectDisk 10.0

Pros

PerfectDisk 10 is even better than the old Norton tools or even PC Tools of the 80's as this program can do it's job while the computer is just idleing away and the program will also work on USB hard drives as well.

Cons

I really con not come up with any "Cons" for PerfectDisk 10 as I haven't had any problems with it.

Summary

PerfectDisk 10 is one great program that allows the user to see what is going on while the program is opened and running in a window. You actually get to see what blocks of information are being moved unlike with Windows defrag that tells you nothing except that it is defragmenting using a graph type setting. PerfectDisk 10 will even tell you what files are fragmented as well as how badly they are, and the it will also show an after action report that will show you a full sumary, most fragmented files, excluded files, file types, and a performance and free space chart.
So far using this product I have gained almost a 20% increase in access time and start up time. All this while being done in the backgraound while away from my computer for short periods of time and also running the program manually just to see if it was doing what I hoped it would do.

"I'm sorry, BUT perfectdisk 8 was so much better!!!!!!!!"

August 29, 2009  |  By alaskared3

 |  Version: PerfectDisk 10.0

Pros

Did not really like anything about perfectdisk 10. Except maybe that it was all Prettied up.
Perfectdisk 8 was much faster, also it compacted the harddrive much better, as in it did a much better job with free space consolidation.

Cons

Perfectdisk10,though it seems to have all of the zoo zoo's & wham wham's and look's colorful and space age state of the art, really suck's and does not compare to Perfectdisk 8.Perfectdisk10 is much too slow, and does not compact or consolidate well.

Summary

Perfectdisk 10, though it seems to have all of the zoo zoo's & wham wham's and look's colorful and space age state of the art, really suck's and does not compare to Perfectdisk 8. Perfectdisk 10 is much too slow, and does not compact or consolidate free space well, like perfectdisk 8 did. I don't know what happened between Perfectdisk 8 & Perfectdisk 10, But somewhere somethings were forgotten that made perfectdisk the best defragmenting & compacting software. Hopefully, in the future Perfectdisk Personnel will go back to Perfectdisk 8 and realize that at that point that they had the best defragger on the market. No changes were really needed, IF they did want to advance it another step, well then I guess they could have just made it Pretty too, like Perfectdisk 10. OTHER THAN THAT, THEY SHOULD HAVE JUST LEFT WELL ENOUGH ALONE, BECAUSE WITH PERFECTDISK 8 THEY ALREADY HAD THE BEST DEFRAGGER ON THE PLANET, NO ONE ELSE EVEN COMPARED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And if perfectdisk wanted to, you know stay in business and make more money, WELL, that did not mean CHANGE Perfectdisk 8, It was the best already, it meant come up with a new product maybe not a defragger, but something else????????

Updated on Aug 29, 2009

AND P.S. The reason the free space consolidation & compacting was so important in THE Perfectdisk 8, WAS, because with the free space consolidation & tight compacting of the harddrive comes the lightning fast computer speeds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Something that has SEEMINGLY COMPLETELY eluded MICROSOFT, which is why they have one of the worst defraggers on the market, and the reason WE are always having to go somewhere else, for a Defragger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Simply put, this software delivers PERFECTLY"

August 27, 2009  |  By hsckuhns

 |  Version: PerfectDisk 10.0

Pros

Pros: Simple enough for most people to use without help. Enough easy to understand help if you need it. Works magnificently with set and forget features. Best of all can be used on Windows Home Server as an Add-In.

Cons

Cons: Some may consider it price prohibitive but the long term value and customer service makes it hard to beat.

Summary

In general, I am not very enthused about products like this. They tend to be "alright" and I use them, they work, I go along my days content my computers don't explode. When I decided to put in my Home Server Network to work from home and my office as well as stream media I started looking around at all my options and got my setup working and began looking for the software to in to it. Since I was working with 4TBs worth of data I valued I knew that I needed a good and reliable disk management system to keep up the maintenance of my server.

After speaking with an IT friend of mine he dropped the name PerfectDisk 10 to me and I decided to give it a spin. I was seriously impressed with it from the word go. Not only was it a breeze to setup but they also made it a Windows Home Server Add-In which was even better.

As soon as I had PD10 up and running it saw all my drives and in a very simple and clean format laid out all the options and gave plenty of easy to digest documentation regarding certain uses and what the software can do. I let it do the first manual run and set the automatic feature to perform its duties as soon as my server woke up.

I had some additional questions through the site I followed up with and was promptly answered within a day. I won't lie, I was contacted by a representative of the company to ask how I liked the software and I responded very kindly. This didn't prompt me to write the review, I planned to do that after my evaluation period was over. I did however believe this was a great touch and something missing from a lot of software companies. Customer service and interaction is missing from companies these days so adding that along with the great product definitely inspired me to give them a great review and spread the word around to anyone looking for disk management to give this product serious consideration. Or rather just download it and do the trial anyway and see for yourself.
