Maintaining proper disk hygiene is like going to the dentist: You do it because you have to, but it's rarely easy and almost never pleasant. PerfectDisk is a friendly alternative that picks up where Windows' Disk Defragmenter leaves off, adding powerful features, an attractive interface, and a top-notch help file with clear instructions and definitions.
In addition to the standard defragmentation process, it offers a SmartPlacement option, which analyzes usage patterns and organizes data to minimize future fragmentation. Another useful option is offline defragmentation, which optimizes parts of the drive, such as the Master File Table and the page file, that can't be modified while Windows is running. On your next bootup, PerfectDisk takes over, optimizes the selected files, and lets Windows proceed with start-up. The interface features big buttons, bold but complimentary colors, and is short on drawbacks.
The program also offers statistical analysis, scheduled maintenance, and the ability to defragment remote computers running another copy of PerfectDisk. That last feature is perfect for IT staffers, but we recommend the app to home users, too. At its price, PerfectDisk isn't a bargain--but getting this close to perfect doesn't come cheap.

Version: PerfectDisk 8.0. build 45
"Unmatched Speed with Effectiveness"
Pros: I want my computer to be secure, safe, smooth and clean and I want to be in control of what is happening on my machine. I have in the past years used numerous products offering security and maintenance services and when it comes to defragmenting my drives, PerfectDisk does the best job.
The speed combined with effectiveness applied by PerfectDisk's SMARTPlacement option (boot files first followed by blocks according to usage) is unmatched by other defragmenters.
Whenever you choose a complete defragmentation with O&O or other competitors, according to usage, alphabetical order etc. you will have to painfully wait for completion and in most cases, your boot files are not located where they belong too: at the beginning of your drive.
Perfect Disk leaves no defragmented files whatsoever. An extremely cluttered disk, might take a second run, usually completed in less than a minute.
Perfect disk handles external disks extremely well and has no problems with very large files (O&O and others simply refuse to work when facing certain backup or mirror files (e.g. Acronis tib files).
The boot disk or off-line defragmentation is perfect handling system files such as the MFT, NTFS Metadata and Paging File. PerfectDisk places the MTF on the drive.
The management console is user friendly and very well structured.
For further reference have a look at the comparison table published by the Raxco team: PerfectDisk 8 vs. Diskeeper 2007. I am aware that this is a marketing tool and it must therefore be carefully viewed. But is does give clear answers to some very important features and the overall result speaks for itself.
Cons: none

"Can't see what the fuss is about"
Pros: It does work out where your memory is, but it does not show it working. Also program kept crashing. Try Auslogics Disk Defrag which is free.

"Amazing performance boost for World of Warcraft and other large games!"
Pros: PerfectDisk is an amazing product. I originally downloaded the demo to see how it could improve the performance of World of Warcraft. Specifically WoW's MPQ files which are huge files that are updated weekly. They fragment so easily and when fragmented they cause lagging and hangs during interactive game play as you cross particular boundaries between geography. Once I used PerfectDisk, I had nearly flawless performance. No hangs or lagging. I bought the tool immediately and scheduled the defrag after each patch from Blizzard. I've never had any lag since. I bought a 5 user license for my guild mates. Totally amazing product that's fast running and reliable. Might as well call it a WoW optimizer. Kudos!!

"I know you look for the BEST defragmenter!"
Pros: Some points I want to expose:
1- Please rise your hand if you would buy a software that keeps telling you that you need to free up 20% of your hard drive in order to work fine thats what I thought. If you have a 75 GB hard drive of course you NEED all the space! And if you have a 200GB hard drive youre not going to waste 40 GB just because software you need tells you to do it.
PerfectDisk just defrag the hard drive without the annoying pressure of getting free space to keep things smooth.
2-Free space can become fragmented?? If files are spread trough the hole hard drive that means that free space are spread too so the answer is yes If I get defragmenter software, I expect it to defrag EVERYTHING, including free space. If after you defrag, your free space is scattered all over the place, then when you create new files, they can be created fragmented (which is the problem that you are trying to solve). Diskeeper does NOT defrag free space, PerfectDisk DOES, it uses the SMARTPlacement feature that leaves all the free space together at the end, thats what I call using the brain.
3- OkYou turn on the PC first comes the POST and then the BOOT hmmm interesting someone should take all the boot files at the beginning of the hard drive for a fast booting process PerfectDisk already did that, when you run the Offline defragmenter tool it restarts the PC and takes the boot files to the beginning of the drive and there you have it, the PC boots a lot faster, also this feature defrags the page file (an amount of hard drive space used by windows as RAM memory) and all the files that cant be touched while windows is running.
4- PerfectDisk is faster than Diskeeper yes, its faster and thats it. What else do you want to hear?
Cons: Didn't find anything bad, yes, for real!

"PerfectDisk 8.0 tech support was the best I've ever had!"
Pros: I was having trouble with defragging Metadata with the offline feature. The file $LogFile was bigger than could be handled by PerfectDisk. I contacted their tech support guys and they were awsome! The sent me some small files to help with diagnostics. I ran their log gathering info and emailed them a couple times back and forth. The tech then told me how to reset a default setting and BINGO! I ran chkdsk /f then ran an offline defrag and got everything organized. Not one fragmented file to be found in any metadata or pagefile or in regular file space. No question this is the best tech support I ever recieved from any product I've purchased. The cost of their product is very reasonable and they support it absolutely. I have owned this product for over two years...got a free upgrade, unparalleded tech support and with a POS system running XP Home with a PIII running at 498 MHz & only a 7 gig of hard drive with 640 MB RAM...free space is critical. This is a super product, I would recommend it unconditionally for anyone with a low powered system. And they stand behind it...refreshing in the era of big company indifference.
