"The best defragmenter I have used"

December 11, 2006  |  By davidc100

 |  Version: PerfectDisk 8

Pros

Very fast and simple to use with a straightforward interface. Having been a Diskeeper user for some years, I moved away from Diskeeper 2007 because I don't like the complicated new interface and the extent to which it now works unattended under the covers. I am sure Diskeeper means well but like many system optimizers it is too intrusive. I hope that Perfect Disk never strays too far in this direction. I just want a thorough and fast defragmenter which operates when I ask it to. PerfectDisk 8 provides this.

Cons

None.

"Perfect Disk 8 about as perfect as it gets"

December 07, 2006  |  By plg6

 |  Version: PerfectDisk 8

Pros

I had been using PD version 5. PD 8 is faster and is lighter on the system when running than the prior version. Boot time defrag also useful on system files. Best feature is that it logically orders files and works to maximize contiguous free space, reducing future fragmentation. Another good feature is that it does the work in far fewer passes than other software, usually one or two will eliminate all fragmentation and order the files. An ongoing performance improvement analysis is a nice touch. Tech support was very prompt and courteous when I wanted to upgrade across a couple of versions. Well recommended.

Cons

The user interface on version 5 was a little clearer than this one. This is a little more GUI-centric and seems more cluttered. But it's not the interface, it's the performance that matters - so this is more of my issue being a user of multiple versions rather than being an out-and-out drawback, per se.

"Perfectdisk 8 Lives up to it's Name!"

November 15, 2006  |  By bobmitmen

 |  Version: PerfectDisk 8

Pros

Flawless installation. Easy to use! Bootime defrag works great. I was a diskeeper user for years...but after using Perfectdisk 8, I have to ask myself, WHY?

Since using Perfectdisk, my machine boots up faster and programs don't just load, but pop open with a "sizzle" I have never seen before.

Cons

None that I know of

"Great Product"

November 15, 2006  |  By Glaivier

 |  Version: PerfectDisk 8

Pros

Everything. Fast performance, defrag the drive well in a single pass or single pass plus boot-time defrag. Thrashes windows defragment, DIRMS and any version of Diskeeper I've ever tried to date. As head developer, this has saved various machines from being reinstalled by getting the performance back to where it should be.

Cons

Nothing, I bought it for my home machines after seeing how good it was.

"The Best compared to other defrag programs"

November 13, 2006  |  By chtrummer

 |  Version: PerfectDisk 8

Pros

There are a few good defrag products. But this one does the job best. The result is notable: Your PC operates speedier after using PerfectDisk. It definitely beats the rest of top defragmenters. It will be my recommendation. Congratulations to the Raxco team!

Cons

none

"Perfect PerfectDisk"

November 09, 2006  |  By lonewolfchua

 |  Version: PerfectDisk 8

Pros

This is an excellent defrag prog and i've owned it since PerfectDisk 7. I'v tried a few types of defrag prog, e.g. Norton defrag, windows defrag, diskeeper (evaluation); but nothing beats perfectdisk. It's faster than those and after two rounds(or slightly more) of defrag, harddisk scan will show no file fragmentations. Although diskeeper has a wider, better reputation, i'm sticking to perfectdisk. i recommend it to everyone as an essential tool to keep ur harddrive healthy. (PS: Cnet should review it and give it a rating it deserves)

Cons

nothing i don't like

"The best just got better!"

October 27, 2006  |  By ScottUK

 |  Version: PerfectDisk 8

Pros

I have tried numerous defrag programs, some of them good, some of them not so good. I tried the demo version of PerfectDisk 7 a while back and thought it was great straight away, so needless to say I splashed out and bought the full product.

After using PerfectDisk 7 for a while I was pleased to see that PerfectDisk 8 had been released and was keen to give it a go. Having purchased the full product, I've now been using it for a couple of days and I have to say it is excellent!

New features (including a screensaver defrag mode) and new looks really improve the overall usability of the program. But the proof of the pudding is in how efficiently PerfectDisk 8 manages my hard drives (2 x internal & 1 x external). Automatic overnight defragmentation is performed by using a very simple 'Autopilot' wizard enabling you to schedule when exactly the hard drives are to be defragmented. Once set I never really need to open the program up again as it does everything automatically - great peace of mind!

Another point worth mentioning is that I recently dealt with Raxco's customer service and I have to say that in a world where the customer seems to be less and less important, Raxco certainly did not let me down, highly impressive!

I most certainly will be recommending PerfectDisk 8 to all my colleagues/friends.

Job well done!

Cons

None - buy it!

"ruined my hard drive"

October 19, 2006  |  By davidjmarcus

 |  Version: PerfectDisk 8

Cons

I used the trial version of perfectdisk 8 on my Dell latitude D800 notebook. It had about 15% free space on a 80GB drive and many of the files on my computer are larger movie files (350-700mb files). To start with, it took over a day to complete one defrag run and still left numerous files fragmented (where there clearly was room to do a better job). Therefore I ran it several other times trying to improve the continuity of my files. All in all, I think I was able to get about 5 passes in the trial period. Now here's the tricky part. I'm not a computer expert so I can't tell you for sure what is wrong with my computer after Perfectdisk 8. All I know is that it can barely perform routine tasks because all of the CPU is being used up by taskmanager and, oddly, system idle process. I can't watch movies anymore, let alone use programs like Excel. Since I left my computer alone while it was running the program (i.e. what's the point in putting new stuff on the hard drive while you are defraging it?), I'm left to conclude that it was Perfectdisk that is the culprit. I did run several virus and spyware detectors, just in case, but those all came out clean. At this point I've bought an external drive and I'm planning to download my files to it and wipe my hard drive. I haven't tried any non-Windows defrag programs, but at this point I would recommend any over Perfectdisk!

"Perfect Disk is simply a superior product from an outstanding company."

October 10, 2006  |  By allendustin

 |  Version: PerfectDisk 8

Pros

Raxco has made tremendous improvements on an already superior product. Not only is Perfect Disk the best disk defragmenting utility on the market, but Raxco is one of the best software companies I have had the privilege of doing business with.

Personally, I believe that the decision to purchase software extends beyond the executable to the service that compliments the software. If either are lacking, it can make for a bad experience and I have had my share of bad experiences with both software and the supporting company behind the software. However, I honestly have not had a more positive overall experience with software and its supporting company than I have had with Perfect Disk, First Defense ISR, and Raxco.

Of course I cannot speak for everyone and every situation, but I can say that if you have a hard drive, then you would benefit from having Perfect Disk. If you have Windows, then you should really look into First Defense ISR. I love Perfect Disk, but First Defense ISR is literally is the best piece of software I own and the best I have ever seen.

Cons

Every product has room for improvement, including this one. With a disk degragmenting utility speed improvements should always be a goal, of course there are always hardware limitations.

The only complaint that I have about Raxco as a company is that they should release more outstanding products. Everything they touch literally turns to gold.

Of course, these reviews are tainted with bogus opinions, but anyone that knows me knows that I am extremely critical and rarely do I offer such positive remarks. Be your own judge. Do not trust me. Try these softwares for yourself and you will not regret it.
