Maintaining proper disk hygiene is like going to the dentist: You do it because you have to, but it's rarely easy and almost never pleasant. PerfectDisk is a friendly alternative that picks up where Windows' Disk Defragmenter leaves off, adding powerful features, an attractive interface, and a top-notch help file with clear instructions and definitions.
In addition to the standard defragmentation process, it offers a SmartPlacement option, which analyzes usage patterns and organizes data to minimize future fragmentation. Another useful option is offline defragmentation, which optimizes parts of the drive, such as the Master File Table and the page file, that can't be modified while Windows is running. On your next bootup, PerfectDisk takes over, optimizes the selected files, and lets Windows proceed with start-up. The interface features big buttons, bold but complimentary colors, and is short on drawbacks.
The program also offers statistical analysis, scheduled maintenance, and the ability to defragment remote computers running another copy of PerfectDisk. That last feature is perfect for IT staffers, but we recommend the app to home users, too. At its price, PerfectDisk isn't a bargain--but getting this close to perfect doesn't come cheap.

"Excellent product, and works with x64 OS too!"
Pros: I'm glad to finally find a powerful defragmenting program that is compatible with x64 operating systems such as Windows XP Professional 64bit Edition. This one does more than most, and includes the option to defragment your page file.
Cons: Pricey, but you get what you pay for!

Version: PerfectDisk 7
Pros: this is simply the most effective defragmenter available at this point. It'll do what it must with ease of use and a great lay-out, so you won't be disappointed.
Cons: There are a few minor incompatibility problems, but those can all be resolved by searching the Help-section.

"The best defragger I've used"
Pros: Does great off-line defrags of system files, sorts data into fairly good chronological / usage order, updates fairly regularly, works well on FAT 32 and NTFS (a bit slow on FAT 32), fairly quick, useful, personal response by e-mail to support issues.
Cons: Could be faster, gets it's knickers in a twist trying to do off-line defrags on computers connected to a 2003 Server (can't get enough rights etc for exclusive use), will sometimes require 2 online defrags to get ALL file fragments sorted, has some "odd" problems with not uninstalling in some instances (which required a special prog from Raxco to sort out: quite a pain...), online help could be much improved, "interface not registered" error seems a bit too common (seen it in approx 20% of 20 installs done).

Version: PerfectDisk 7
Pros: It is true, this product makes a perfect defrag & organization of your disk.
The options are fairly minimal, yet accomplish everything one needs without a bunch of extra useless settings to have to deal with.
You can adjust the threshhold (in days) of what you consider to be frequently modified, occasionally modified or rarely modified files & PerfectDisk will oganize them for you if you use SmartPlacement.
It also completely organizes the directories, boot, mft, mft zone & metadata etc. Other defraggers don't achieve quite the same result when performing similar tasks, where PerfectDisk really does make perfection of your disks. You can also do an offline defrag of non-boot drives while remaining online, others seem to only be able to do this during a reboot.
It does a way better job than Diskeeper, which seems to have a bad habit of corrupting the file system & even when it doesn't corrupt anything it simply does not defrag or order the disk anywhere even remotely close to what PerfectDisk does. Diskeeper does do a better job than the built in XP defragger when it comes to eliminating file fragments & consolidating free space, but it's really just a glorified version of the XP defragger, what the XP defragger itself should be. In fact it does replace the XP defragger when installed.
There is also O&O Defrag, which in my experience does a better job than Diskeeper. It has a nice interface & has half a dozen or so defrag options, but still it doesn't quite do what PerfectDisk does with only 2 defrag options. Sometimes less really is more.
Cons: The interface, in my opinion, isn't the most attractive of the major defraggers, but I definitely prefer the job this does on my disks.
I rather like the graphical representation of the defrag (once custom colors are set), but somewhere between the icons or the skin or something about it is not quite as pleasant to my eyes as some others. I think it may just be the icons. Actually the icons themselves aren't that bad really, but somehow they look very old & outdated in the way they're styled. I think if they were simply lightened up with a little more shading & effect on them or something along those lines, they would look more modern & pleasing to the eye, & fit into the Windows environment a little better.
Great defragger regardless, the best if not considering appearance to be a drawback, & people's tastes do vary.
