CNET Editors' review
Novice-friendly but with features for the expert and free archiving tools rarely cover all those bases, but PeaZip hits a home run.
Operating PeaZip is as easy as dragging files. Drop a ZIP file on the interface and PeaZip goes into decompression mode. Drop a regular file and it opens the archiving screen. Well-labeled buttons and simple functions make both processes quick and painless. Adding files and folders is also quickly accomplished using function buttons and traditional file browse tools.
Novice users will be able to use default settings to create well-made archives. Experienced users will like the easily set options. Each well-designed interface includes option tabs that contain simple pull-downs, radio buttons, and text boxes to set compression levels, methods, dictionaries, and even encryption. Most users will find this app one of the most simple to set exactly to their preferences.
Anyone looking for a small and useful archiving tool should give PeaZip a test. Most won't continue their search.
PeaZip - Work with various types of archives on the go - Download Video Previews:Publisher's Description
From Giorgio Tani:
PeaZip is a free cross-platform file archive that provides a unified portable GUI for many Open Source technologies like 7-Zip, FreeArc, PAQ, UPX. It creates 7Z, ARC, BZ2, GZ, PAQ, PEA, QUAD or BALZ, TAR, UPX, WIM, XZ, ZIP files. It extracts over 150 archive types: ACE, ARJ, CAB, DMG, ISO, LHA, RAR, UDF, and ZIPX. PeaZip supports a wide array of advanced file and archive management features (convert archives, thumbnail viewer, calculate hash, and find duplicate files), especially focused on security: strong encryption, two factor authentication, encrypted password manager, secure deletion.
The distinctive trait of the program is the innovative and easy to use compression/extraction interface, more similar to CD burners interfaces rather than to a classic file compressor. This design makes extremely simple to check (and update) items set for compression and extraction, integrating a full featured file manager component. Also, tasks created in the GUI can be easily saved as batch scripts, in order to automate backup operations, or for fine tuning, or for learning purpose, bridging the gap between the ease of use of GUI applications and power and flexibility of console.
What's new in this version: Version 4.6.1 has added context menu to all "+" areas to quickly customize all function bars.

"Full Featured - No Cost GPL license"
Version: PeaZip 4.9.2
Pros
* All archive types - many you will never use.
* Super easy interface - You will never struggle to find a feature.
* Reliable - I've never had a freeze or an error.
* One click away from modifying menu integration (Windows).
* Fully customizable and scriptable (for repetitive tasks like backups).
* 64 Bit version available.
* Configurable encryption.
* Intelligent error messages (e.g. un-writable directories)
* No cost.Cons
None so far.
Summary
Changed from a licensed version of WinZip to get more file types and scripting tools.
Truly a tool that is excellent for easy day to day use, or as a more advanced tool for projects (back up scenarios, pre-sized split volumes, etc.). -
"Works perfectly."
Version: PeaZip 4.9.2
Pros
- extracts numerous types of compressed files, including RAR, ZIP & 7z
- super-fast extraction
- ultra compact compression, esp with the 7z format
- FREE and open sourceCons
Sometimes archives with foreign language filenames may not extract or give an error message. I just rename them in English and they open/extract perfectly.

"great program"
Version: PeaZip 4.9.2
Pros
it has unique features like not any other archive manager = PEAZIP CAN EXTRACT EXE FILES .....incredible ....I had extracted driver installation program and updated video drivers thanks to peazip .
Cons
the only con is i didn't find it earlier .
Summary
if someone is suspicious because of negative comments = just download portable version of peazip , unzip it and use that instead of installer

"toolbar from hell!"
Version: PeaZip 4.9.1
Pros
None at all, I didn't get to use it.
Cons
Any developers that package their software with toolbars shouldn't get their applications used. I never got a toolbar with Linux. I like Windows, but there's too many people preying on others that are not too good with computers. In this case, it will attempt to install an Entrusted toolbar. Not surprising though coming from this site.

"Best free alternative to WinZip when funds are limited."
Version: PeaZip 4.9
Pros
Very easy to use.
Cons
No complaints!
-
"excellent free archive manager"
Version: PeaZip 4.8.1
Pros
1.cool icons
2.fast compression and decompression
3.customizable "right click" menus
4.various file format support with different icon for every compressed file formatCons
does not create RAR files but 7-ZIP format has similar compression ratio and I use it as default .
Summary
I like this software
PEAZIP is better than all similar software I've installed before and COMODO antivirus does not find it dangerous
There were two optional programs during installation - I've unchecked them and they didn't install -
"Good but..."
Version: PeaZip 4.7.3
Pros
This is a great program for opening all types of compressed files. It's very easy to use and is not slow at all.
Cons
This program comes with AVG security toolbar and even if you untick the boxes when promted as to whether you want to install it or not it still does. In fairness its easy enough to uninstall the AVG toolbar by going to add/remove programs but it still shouldnt be happening.
Summary
Great programe but beware of the unwanted extras.

"another hidden surprize"
Version: PeaZip 4.7.2
Pros
Did not get to the install function-see Cons
Cons
Not until the program was downloaded do you get a forced malware choice. Malware because it is an Unwanted or asked for program. After the download and just prior to Installing you have to:
1)Under Recommended: Take the Avast Homepage that says it must be maintained
2) Take the Avast Search function and
3) Take the Avast Tool Bar
Under Custom option- Take one or more of the 3.
Otherwise - No PeaZip.
I backed out and did a Restore to remove it, but alas- In "hidden files" PeaZip made many entries that will stay-Unless one knows how to erase entries without possibly affecting other programs.
Cnet- Why is this not disclosed?? After the restore, Malwarebytes was corrupted, so it had to be uninstalled-I chose Cnet's "Older Versions". But ALL of those earlier options were False! Those downloads are Actually a link to the newest one! Folks- Look closely at the download name & Ver.#. You may not get what you request. These problems are not unique to these two downloads. -
"It's All you'll Ever Need for File Extraction"
Version: PeaZip 4.7.2
Pros
-Portable version available to those that don't feel the need to install the program.
-Reliable, I've never had to worry about file extraction.
-It's free, and always will be since its Open Source.
-I've always loved that right click option that allows you to extract all now, right in the same folder. Makes the job quick and easy.Cons
I've personally had no problems with the program, it does everything I expect it to do.
BTW, don't bother with spazzytalks' review... You can EASILY change what types of files a program affects in the control panel, or: Right click on the file -> Properties -> Opens with(Click the Change Button) and select the program that you want windows to use for that file type. I hope that helps those that had that problem! -
"Too Invasive"
Version: PeaZip 4.7.2
Pros
does the zop
Cons
Windows are much larger than needed and often pop up when unnecessary. The final straw for me what the way it took over how my system opens files. Using [cntrl] to highlight multiple files I wish to open, hitting enter opens a peazip dialog box for creating a compressed file rather than allowing the files to open in their native program.
Summary
better options are out there
