    "Very handy program."

    Version: Passwords Plus 1.0.0.6

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've used Passwords Plus almost every day for several years. It is running on my iMac at home, and on my Palm Zire 71 for access from my office or elsewhere. Part of my routine is to use the Palm's HotSync feature to synchronize every time I recharge, so the two databases are kept in sync (I can make additions or changes on either platform, and they get transferred automatically to the other).

    Version: Passwords Plus Leopard Patches

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I used Passwords plus with Missing Sync right up until the debut of Leopard. PP crashed running under Leopard and I contacted DataViz about the need for an upgrade. This week I got my wish. DataViz supplied a patch that works fine and I'm back to using my beloved Passwords Plus again. One of the most important reasons I use PP is the ease of backup... that is, I can "print" a pdf version that I encrypt and store with Yojimbo, which is exactly what I've been using since the Leopard debut. It's wonderful to know that you can store a copy and also print off a copy of your passwords so easily. Another reason I love Passwords Plus is that I can use the version on my PC at work and my Mac at home and have a password database that is current on both, something that can't be said about most of the Mac-based password security programs out there currently. Yes, it would be nice if the UI was updated a bit, but the absence of bells and whistles doesn't bother me. It's really pretty configurable as is. The developer support is good. I've received in-depth responses to each of my expressed concerns. This is a review for the patch only, by the way.

    "P good"

    Version: Passwords Plus 1.0.0.6

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've been using PP for a few yrs in conjunction with my palm device. Switched from win to mac about a yr ago and dataviz gave me free xfer to mac which I appreciated. Not much to say except it works well- good to have the sync between mac and palm always updated.
One think I would like is an autofill feature on the mac which I think I see in a competitor.. not a big deal because copy/paste is v quick...

    "Buggy"

    August 28, 2005  |   By mykelg88

    Version: Passwords Plus 1.0.0.5

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Reliability is an issue if you plan to exclusively use this system to record such critical data. Not reliability as to the security of the data but in terms of its integrity and a potential catastrophic loss.

For example, I changed the name of a template without realising that the new name already existed. The system crashed. My database file was corrupted and the program would not restart. Dataviz has a knowledge base article on this (13527) in which they recommend the deletion of all files in such instances - including the user database! Normally I would have a backup but I was still creating my records - 95% complete when I lost the system - a few hours work down the drain. Not helpful: why doesn't the program carry out regular background backups for safety? Why is such a fatal known bug which was posted to the knowledge base in March - over five months' ago - not yet fixed in a maintenance version?

Other bugs discovered include the occasional inability to add or modify a category, necessitating a quit and reload of the program, and, importantly, if a field in a template has been given the name "Password" or "PIN", thus hiding its contents when the record is displayed, and this field is then edited when customising the system to record other data, the program continues to hide the data. These are simple bugs which should have been noted in testing and addressed before the commercial release of a $30 product.

This could become a good product, but it needs more development first to address the above and to improve the efficiency of the interface, such as repeat field content key, prevention of <CR> in fields, etc.

    "I love this program..."

    Summary

I have a half dozen macs spread out over three offices. keeping track of dozens of serial numbers, pins, passwords/screenames, etc has always been a pain.

Password Plus is a simple no-brainer solution. I simply copy the database between machines so I have my info at my finger tips no matter which one I'm using.

I've been using it for over a year and rely on it heavily.

    "Works well here"

    September 8, 2004  |   By Megavolt--2008

    Version: Passwords Plus 1.0.0.4

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I tried a couple of other password managers and though they worked on the Palm this is the only one to let you see, edit and modify the data from your Mac.

The problem mentioned with others about OS X synching has long been fixed, and even before it was there is a help section on their web page to tell you how to fix your system Permissions to solve the problem.

Technical support though not really fast does respond and is helpful and free as well. I highly recommend this product for anyone with passwords, PINs, credit cards, email and web accounts to track.

    "Passwords Plus works fine"

    September 7, 2004  |   By AHPF

    Version: Passwords Plus 1.0.0.4

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I stopped using Palm Desktop ever since migrating to OS X since Palm support was greatly lacking for Jaguar. Passwords Plus synchronization has always worked very well for me (with Panther too) - I use the iSync, iCal etc. combo and have never had any problems whatsoever. The feature I'm waiting for is a better search function since I have over two hundred entries and the alpha sort is a limited way to find records.

I have this version and have had apparently for months. I bought MacLink and Passwords Plus as a great priced pair at CompUSA (something like 60 bucks for the two) and use it for everything I need access to but secure.

    It works as advertised. Recommended.

    "Works great for me..."

    December 3, 2003  |   By wstevens

    Version: Passwords Plus 1.0.0.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I'm using Mac OS X 10.3.1, Palm OS 5.2.1 and Palm Desktop 4.1. This program has worked right from the beginning for me (version 1.001), and I appreciate the improvements they've made since then. I highly recommend this program.

Just a note about syncing in general. I found that when I turned off Norton AntiVirus Auto Protect, all of my syncing problems went away. I think it would be helpful if DataViz would mention this in their FAQ.
