CNET Editors' review
View hidden passwords on many dialog boxes with this utility, but don't expect it to work for all Web sites as promised.
Password Spectator's interface is really a dialog box that gives instructions for using the program. It's a slightly convoluted operation. Hold the Control key and float your mouse to the password. Press the secondary mouse button to display your password in a separate window. The program worked for all Windows-based password dialogs, but failed to reveal passwords on the major e-mail Web sites we tried.
This is a freeware tool, and some users may not mind the multiple steps needed to reveal passwords. However, we have found numerous freeware applications that outperform this utility. While anyone from novice users to system administrators could use Password Spectator, you might want to spend a little extra time testing other application in this category.
Publisher's Description
From Refog:
When you enter your password on most sites, you see only asterisk signs. This feature is intended to protect your passwords; but sometimes this feature becomes more of a pain, rather than help. Password Spectator is a software that lets you see the actual password behind the asterisks.

"Works great!"
Version: Password Spectator 3.2
Pros
It did exactly what I needed; revealed a hidden password.
Cons
Nothing comes to mind. If you can follow simple instructions, then you can use this program.
Summary
I was using a program (CuteFTP) which had a password as part of a specifc site login. As I've upgraded my computer's over the years, I brought the encrypted login's & passwords file along with the CuteFTP program. During my latest "upgrade" (finally got a Core 2 Quad), CuteFTP wouldn't accept my "key" (used too many times). This program allowed me to view the long-forgotten password for a critical FTP login, and I used it with FileZilla. Thanks Refog!

"PasswordSpectator is a password recovery tool. It can reveal and store passwords which are entered into Web sites and applications."
so its quarientining the file for what it says it does, not because theres something more malicious in the background. for the people unlucky enough to be running a virus scan software that feels like 'protecting' them from cracking tools that pose no actual threat you'll have to disable your scanners -
"Does not work"
Version: Password Spectator 3.2
Pros
Does not work
Cons
Does not work. Downloaded this to reveal passwords stored by Opera browser, but all I got back was a "password not found" message, which is idiotic, as the password quite plainly is there in Opera and used by it to log me in to sites. This program,
