"Too hard to use"
Version: Paragon Backup and Recovery Free 2011
Pros
Seems professional and sophisticated.
Cons
Very non-user-friendly
Summary
Spent an hour and a half on the phone talking my wife through a restoral attempt. After finally finding the image and getting it started, it failed with an I/O error. Fortunately I had a Macrium backup as well.

"Works as described."
Version: Paragon Backup and Recovery Free 2011
Pros
Very good user interface - logical arrangement of icons/steps.
Cons
My main interest was in getting imaging software to work with the newer hard disks using Guid Partition Tables (GPT). This was supposed to support these disks, but the restoration failed.
The restore process was also very long (hours).Summary
Works well if you do not have a UEFI motherboard with disks using GPT.

"Very good while using OSs prior to 64-bit Windows 7"
Version: Paragon Backup and Recovery Free 2011
Pros
Up to 32-bit Windows Vista, it used to work fine for restoring the whole HD onto DVDs.
Cons
Now under 64-bit Windows 7, with its first area (partition) reserved by the system (before the actual system on C disk), Paragon does not work as before. When I generated the backup, I did it as I used before, and the recording went normally (apparently). But when I tried to restore the system (Simple Restore option), it shows an I-O error message. By using the Partition Backup & Restore, I could restore the first area, but not the disk C backup. It insists in only restoring the first area. If I were advised about it before, I would have tried generating two backups: one for the first area and another with the contents of drice C (maybe this way it would work, but I am not sure).
Summary
People should be advised not to use it for backing up 64-bit Windows 7 onto DVDs.

"Beware low-level DOS driver !"
Version: Paragon Backup and Recovery Free 2011
Pros
Paragon's backup feature solid, but restore not faultless ..
Cons
Low-level DOS driver, interferes with system files/swap file defrag prior to loading OS proper - had to delete it to get this going
Summary
Best not to load a low-level DOS driver as standard - only when a system restore is called, from the management console, or when a CD restore disk is booted from.

"One of the Best"
Version: Paragon Backup and Recovery Free 2011
Pros
It's FREE. It does a complete system backup, an image of your system that can be restored to the same state you saved it in. It can also backup parts of the operating system. Better than Ghost an without the issues.
Cons
None. Not a one.
Summary
1. I have been using this for years and recommend it to many people who are extremely happy with this.
2. If this is slow and takes a day, there are a couple of issues, one, you have a dinosaur of a PC, there is a hardware issue, or there is WAY too much info to back up and restore. If there is a lot of information, it can take longer, again, depends on how much you are backing up and restoring. A bit of common sense please.
3. It downloads fine for me from Cnet. People need to read the Cnet wording, if you want a direct download, sign in. Second helpings on common sense?
4. If they don't email you the code, I have gotten one for everyone I've had sign up, plus myself in every case. Contact them instead of complaining here. Another dish of common sense.
5. The restore disk doesn't work? Then you have bad media or burned it wrong. Common sense would tell you to try it before you assume it will just work.
6. Not restoring the image exact? Then the backup options were NOT checked properly, I know this for a fact.
Finally, Paragon is probably the best FREE backup software you can own and Cnet has always had solid downloads. It's a shame when you get such a great piece of software for FREE and due to lack of common sense and the ability to read correctly, it has to take some hits. Sad. -
"Couldn't use: Paragon never sent code"
Version: Paragon Backup and Recovery Free 2011
Pros
None seen because I couldn't use the program
Cons
After 100mb download which won't open unless you apply a code they email you after registering, going through the hassle of registering...they never emailed the code [and yes, I checked spam.junk folder]
Summary
Big waste of time to download this and register for NOTHING. I'll use Macrium reflect instead.

"Best free backup software for Windows 7 I've found."
Version: Paragon Backup and Recovery Free 2011
Pros
Wizards walk you through step-by-step. Allows you to select files/folders or the entire partition for backup. Selecting the entire drive/partition is great in the case of a system crash. Program walks you through the process of building Recovery Media so you can recover from a system crash.
Cons
Recovery Media wizard is pretty "bare bones" and could be confusing to those less technically savvy. When you run it just be sure and only have the flash/optical media you want to use plugged into the system. That way you only have one selection to choose from.
Summary
Great program, with most of the bells and whistles and it's FREE.

"Does the Trick"
Version: Paragon Backup and Recovery Free 2011
Pros
This software is very easy to use. It offers everything I need for maintenance of my home computers. The backup of a 25GB Windows 7 install took 15 minutes (from a 5400RPM drive) over USB2.0 to a portable 7200RPM Drive. Restore to a different drive running 7200RPM took less than 10 minutes. The Recovery CD is very powerful and saved me a day of Windows 7 reinstall and software setup. I plan to recommend this to everyone.
Cons
None. There have not been any significant issues encountered with this software.
Summary
Bought this after reading a post about how to fix Windows 7 boot after a motherboard change. The machine would reboot while entering Windows splash screen. None of the standard Windows repair techniques would work. I wasn't permitted by Windows to do a Sysprep because it is an upgrade version (figures). Created a recovery disk using Paragon Home Backup and Restore version (purchased at half price direct from them on BF). The Recovery disk with WinPE is not part of the free download here. Used the OS repair option in Recovery mode and it fixed the issue within a minute. Windows booted and installed the rest of its drivers. Why can't Microsoft do this? Replacing a bad motherboard with an upgrade is very common. If you have this problem then buy the Home version and it will be solved in minutes. I have never been so happy with a software suite. Highly recommended.

"Almost perfect"
Version: Paragon Backup and Recovery Free 2011
Pros
Restored my computer to the exact image that I created. Everything worked perfectly, as it did before the crash.
Cons
Recovery CD created w/ paragon did not work at all. It gave me some sort of error. The backup & recovery is slow, takes a full day to do both. I am running an archaic computer, however. Dell Optiplex w/ a p4 processor - it does everything slow.
Summary
I downloaded something nasty which caused my system to crash. I tried the recovery CD which I created w/ Paragon. IT DID NOT WORK - AT ALL!!!!! It gave me some sort of error. I re-installed Windows XP, then downloaded the Paragon software again. I ran the Paragon program; selected restore, then pointed it to the image I created prior to the crash. It restored my system perfectly. Everything is exactly as it was. I can't say enough about this software. The mere fact that I took the time to write a review speaks for itself. I'm not the type to do this, but I was so pleased w/ getting my system back, coupled w/ the fact that the software was FREE, that I felt compelled to show my appreciation. If you're on the fence about it, try it. It's free; you have nothing to loose.
