PDF files can be extraordinarily useful online, but it's often desirable to offer content instead as a simple Web page. This application feeds that need, turning PDF documents into an HTML-formatted page that can be read by ordinary browsers. In our testing, the quality of the output appeared quite high, retaining complicated formatting and creating a navigation menu. Our only initial quibble was it altered colors somewhat. The program doesn't take the easy way out of simply creating a giant image; instead, it extracts text into genuine HTML and turns embedded pictures into GIFs. However, all of this comes at a cost. The HTML files created can be enormous (300KB for a single page of text!) because each character is embedded into a line of meta tags. Furthermore, we were disappointed to see that the only real configuration option is a Zoom feature, and that the trial version converts only the first three pages of a document, too few for a real stress test. These quirks, most particularly the large output file size, keep us from recommending the program wholeheartedly despite its useful function.
