From Jan Fiala :PSPad editor is a programmer’s editor with support for multiple syntax highlighting profiles. It comes with a hex editor, CP conversion, text differences, templates, macros, spellcheck option, auto-completion, and code explorer. The program is pre-configured for the most popular programming languages (VB, C++, SQL, PHP, ASP, Python) and you can further customize the syntax settings. PSPad includes several additional tools that are especially useful for HTML editing (compress, format code) and also integrates TopStyle Lite and TidyHTML. The program can be used as IDE for any compiler. Additional features include support for project, file browsing, custom shortcuts, and built-in FTP client to edit files on the server.

Version: PSPad editor 4.3.3
Pros: For a couple of days PSPadâ??s line of fans has got larger with one more. Such a misfortune Iâ??ve missed it for so long, while I was testing or working with other editors less proficient.
Anyhow, better later then never so after only a couple of days I am tremendously glad to have it and use it. It's really the best I've tried and I'm glad I stopped my search here...
Cons: First of all PSPad is a very light editor but still has so many powerfull, usefull features. In my case, programming PHP and writing HTML code had become a breeze. HTML code completion, PHP compiler, FTP, internal preview with local server, and lots more... all highly customizable, UNICODE support - dear Lord!- and very fast development for the last versions... all FREE of charge !!!
My quest is over and I'm really glad I found PSPad. This is a software for a life time. Thank you Jan Fiala!

"sophisticated yet simple to use freeware editor"
Pros: Great variability and support for many programming languages. Excellent speed and usability, very stable. Improves with each version. Very popular product with wide user base and on-line BBS help. Support for various languages. I definitely recommend this product!
Cons: Actual version 4.3.2 still lacks support for regular expression replace function in multifile-replace window. Line wrap is not working very well so it's better to turn it off until they fix it.

Version: PSPad editor 4.3.3
"Efficient, compact, nice features, constantly improving"
Pros: I am using PsPad for two years now for C++ and UNIX programming. Having tried (and still regularly evaluating) other programmer's editors, PsPad remains my editor of choice.
I particularly like the excellent integration with FTP. No other editor I know offers such a natural explorer-like interface with a remote FTP site.
It has all the features that you expect in a programmer's editor: syntax highlighting, brace matching, bookmarks, tabbed windows, projects, and even a Code Explorer that shows a pane with the structure of your source code.
The latest versions make it possible to extend PsPad's functionality via scripting languages.
And finally, Jan (the author) responds quickly to problems and requests. There is a large and very active community of PsPad users.
Cons: The built-in macro language and recording is poor. For example, you cannot record or create a macro that executes a find operation. But on the other hand, the scripting offers more possibilities.
The Code Explorer is built in and cannot be customized. All modifications must be carried out by the author, who cannot (of course) be familiar with all programming languages. The C++ Code Explorer for example is not perfect. But Jan is working on a version that offers customization possibilities.

"The most powerful Editor for programmers and power user, and even freeware."
Pros: First of all the community and the coder Jan are always there to help you if you got problems in no time. -----
Than i like the many features of this editor. Syntax and URL highlighting, text converters, column select, possibility for external applications, project management, FTP client, scriptable, ex- and import, HTML preview and all the other goodies all the other editor have too. -----
I like to edit an HTML file, press Ctrl+Shift+T and the hole TAG is selected.

PSPad kann man auch auf deutsch umstellen und hat somit alle Menüpunkte und Meldungen auf Deutsch. Sogar die Homepage hat eine deutsch Übersetzung.

There are Macro, Spell checker (auch in Deutsch), Hex editor, search and replace in files, regular expressions, UNIX/MAC/DOS file format, Color picker, math calculator, MD5 generator, Lorem Ipsum Generator, code clips, auto completition and many more...

"Tabbed browsing, multilighter, built-in hexaeditor, ..."
Pros: It supports most widely used charakter-sets (utf8, latin2, cp1250). Includes HexaEditor, connection to TopStyle, multilighter, ... Great is tabbed-browsing function, so there coul'd be opened more than one file and it is handled by "Alt+1-9" for quick switching ...
