- "A beta worth trying"
- Version reviewed: Opera Mobile (Windows Mobile) 9.51 beta 2
For solid surfing performance, an unobtrusive navigation design, and rich browsing and saving features, Opera Mobile 9.51 beta is a must-have download for touch-screen Windows Mobile Pocket PCs. Performance was faster and smoother than that of competitors, and the array of features are a nice fit for users intent on browsing on the phone as they do on the desktop. Among them are an in-text search and text highlighting, a Google search bar, and an address bar that suggests URLs for sites you've previously visited. There's also support for Opera Dragonfly, a remote debugging tool for third-party developers.
As the product is in its early beta stages, the Download.com rating ought to be taken with a grain of salt. The tabbed browsing experience, for example, has been demoted from visible tabs to stacked windows, and there are a handful of missing or broken features. Flash video, for example, doesn't work in this first build, a phone's custom input won't always work, and the app has not yet been outfitted with more languages than English. As the application nears its final release, Opera Mobile 9.5 is expected to gain far more capabilities. For now, it's recommended as a fairly stable and enjoyable browser.

Version: Opera Mobile (Windows Mobile) 9.51 beta 2
"Runs out of memory on HTC Mogul"
Pros: Very nice UI. Seemed to render most sites faithfully.
Cons: Virtually unusable on my Sprint HTC Mogul (PPC 6800) due to memory usage. Even with all other applications shutdown, the application would run out of memory after 2-3 browsed pages.
Summary: Back to a combination of Skyfire and PIE (Portable Internet Explorer) for me.
