Version: Online Armor 1.1.0.616
"What a great new program! A must have."
Pros: Online armor is the best addition to the frontline security of your computer while connected to the internet in years. The pro-active approach OA takes to stopping nasties infecting your system and stealing your priviate information is a breath of fresh air to the tired old approach of virus scanners. OA (online armor) uses a system of program monitoring, whereby unknown applications are stopped from running, until you tell OA that they are ok to run. The method that is used to ask/deny permission is very un-obtrusive and easy to use, and from a user experience, you would hardly know OA is running, meaning minimal fuss, and lots of peace of mind. OA stops malicious ActiveX scripts (and other dangerous stuff) on websites from running, but still allows you to surf the site with no problem. OA's mail filter is a blessing, preventing Phishing tricks, such as emails trying to get you to give up your bank account details and the such, isolating or removing the suspicious email before you can be tricked. OA stops un-wanted cookies from residing on your system. OA has good keylogger detection, stopping your key strokes from being monitored by someone wanting access to, for example, your banking credentials. OA provides DNS checking, and protects your hosts file, which in turn prevents someone re-directing your browser (lets say your logging on to your banks site) away from the REAL site, to a FAKE, malicious site intending to steal your information and your money. When you have to make a decision to allow/deny something, you can either choose to always allow, or always deny, or if you prefer, you can allow/deny once only, and it will ask you each time thereafter. Very flexible!
Cons: THIS IS NOT A CON!
I give this program five stars, for the main reason that the simplicity of Online Armor has allowed me to finally install something on PC's for people, who are not very experienced with computers, knowing that they will easily be able to visually comprehend what exactly is going on with their PC, and that if they are not sure, DENY will not do any harm, but will provide peace of mind, until someone who is capable can explain what it was that they denied, and why. At the same time, OA is powerful enough for the experienced user, and its features cover areas of security that conventional anitivirus software does not. Using a good firewall, decent antivirus, with Online Armor as a NOT optional MUST, and I think you are set for some pretty safe surfing.
Even their online web forums provide some of the best personal, prompt, one on one, support, not often seen from software developers these days.
