OmniDiskSweeper is a great tool for making space on Mac OS X, Mac OS X Server and Mac OS 9 disks.
When you start OmniDiskSweeper, it presents you with a list of disks attached to your machine. You double-click on one, and a new window opens with a browser listing every file and directory on that disk, sorted by size. This is very fast for HFS+ partitions: it takes about seven seconds to process one gigabyte. UFS partitions are significantly slower.
Then you browse through the files and directories, and delete the large ones that you aren't using any more. The free space on the disk and the ordering of the directories are automatically recalculated. If you aren't sure what's in a file, you can double-click it or drag it onto an app on it to open it. It's that simple!

"Saves buying a new mac"

Pros
Will list all of your files (including all xcode manuals in 24 different languages) and let you get rid of that crap you havnt asked for and dont want.
So instead of having gigs of bullcrap that "came with software" (like the mentioned xcode manuals in greece, janpanese and other languages i dont care for) - just clean it up.
Have several times thought I had to buy a new Mac (got a 64gb MBA, not much when working with software development), and every time this software have saved me from buying a new MBA with bigger SSD.Cons

Shows you your volume sizes, allows you to delete offending huge files. It will even do network volumes.

Kind of slow.

There is a much faster utility called "What Size" but it they charge you a nominal fee. Considering this is free, I can wait. Must have utility! Omnigroup has an array of beautifully designed, no compromise Mac apps that you really need to take a look at.

Shows the disk directory ordered by sub-directory/file size. Tis is especially useful when you have to prune a tight disk

In leopard it frequently crashes when the user is displaying different parts of the directory.

Pros
Shows you the actual size of all the files/folders on your drive, including hidding files/folders.
Cons
Takes a little while to do each scan/analysis. If you use File Vault, you have to scan your home directory separately. Doesn't help with cleaning out old pref files, etc.
