There were a couple of issues with the installation of this monitoring program, but that was nothing compared with the problems in testing its features.
Office Cyber Alert's interface is plain and easy to operate. There are tabs for the six areas the program monitors, and it seems comprehensive. Buttons and a File menu give access to the same areas. A pull-down menu prompts you to select a user, but the first time around our testers reported that no users were listed. The problem was corrected when the program was reinstalled. Office Cyber Alert covers Web sites visited, applications used, keystrokes, screenshots, files accessed, and instant messenger. Or at least it's supposed to. After performing all of the activities the program promises to monitor, a trip back to the interface revealed next to nothing. The only tab that displayed information was applications used. A dialog box flashed each time a tab was accessed, but it was too quick to be read in all tabs but Keystroke, which indicated that only two records of keystrokes can be viewed with the trial version. Even so, no keystrokes were displayed. You can theoretically have logs sent to an e-mail address, but our testers couldn't find out if this feature worked since a message appeared saying there was no information to send.
The problems we encountered with the 7-day trial version didn't inspire confidence that the registered version is worth the money. If you really need to know what's happening on your PC, look for a demo version or freeware that produces results.
