Version: OCB for WinRAR 2.12
"OCB is a wonderful shareware add-on for WinRAR!"
Pros: There are so many great things about this program that I don't know where to start! It has a very small installation size and wide compatibility range (Windows 95 through Server 2003) with command line support. It functions as an add-on shell for WinRAR to help you manage backup archives and "allows you to create an unlimited number of presets containing dozens of settings". You can password-protect these backup archives, as well as four different areas of the OCB program settings. Once you purchase OCB, all future upgrades are FREE.
The OCB program interface is user friendly for both newbies and advanced users. You can change fonts and colors and add bitmap images as backgrounds. You can create your own custom SKINS to further enhance its appearance.
Help and documentation are included on the Acritum web site and within the trial version. If you have more questions or problems, excellent one-on-one support is available to you free of charge. There is also a new user support forum. Visit the acritum web site for the URL. (The URL cannot be posted in this review due to CNET rules.)
There are several compression and archive options. When specifying files and folders to back up, you can EXCLUDE certain items. You can create AUTOMATIC BACKUPS with AUTO CLEANUP of obsolete archives. Backups can be scheduled to run every month, week, day or hour (even every 5 minutes) with OCB. You can add a RECOVERY RECORD to each RAR archive. By entering command line switches manually, you can also add COMMENTS to archives and change the date/time format.
Using OCB is the best way to back up my Internet Explorer FAVORITES. I use both the "Direct RARing" method and the "Overwrite" method so that two sets of backups are always current. OCB is an important part of my backup system and is a very good complement to Genie Backup Manager (GBM) 6 Pro. They work very well together. OCB can do things with RAR that GBM cannot do; and GBM can back up system settings, which OCB cannot do. They complement each other.
