Pros
I was using a system loaded beyond reason (which means there were too many things installed). The FREE release truly improved system performance!
Cons
I need to manage full-product acquisition (for evaluation, of course) -- but thats business.

Free! Sorting files into seperate zones sped up my Windows' boot time.
Cons
SSD optimization in Pro version only.
Summary
I'm using O&O Defrag for some years now but didn't equip all my PCs with the Pro version due to the costs. The Free is perfect for my netbook or the children's PCs. Other freeware may have some additional features but I'd rather stick to a brand I know and trust.

Defragment your hard disks and optimize your computer's performance.

Fragmentation can cause your computer to slow down drastically. When saving data, the operating system scatters it all over the hard disk and this slows down the time needed for accessing files. To make sure you have the fastest access times possible, keep the data on your disks arranged in perfect order.Defragmenting with O&O Defrag Free Edition merges the individual fragments from files and then sorts all data into separate zones. Sorting drives into zones results in a logical separation of the database into performance- critical and non-critical files. Depending on their designated use and access frequency, files are divided and moved into zones. System and program files that have to be accessed quickly, for example, will be separated from data such as documents and downloads. Thanks to this logical organization of files, system and program starts require less time, successive defragmentation is done significantly faster, and the fragmentation of program files is completely avoided.
