Once you explore the power of NoteTab Pro, you may find this text editor beautiful despite its off-putting interface. The Pro version adds tag highlighting and allows you to program your own features. The left-hand column displays a list of commands, called clips, that do anything from inserting bits of text to generating code. Each library, the roster of which appears as buttons at the bottom of the screen, contains its own set of clips. The FTP library, for example, lets you create server profiles, connect, upload and download files, and issue various commands. The publisher's site offers many user-created libraries, or you can make your own. You can create your own clips by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F2 and edit them easily.
The Tidy HTML clip (in the HTML and Utilities libraries) incorporates the free download HTML Tidy, available on Download.com. While the TopStyle library similarly requires a CSS editor of that name, we couldn't get it to work. We would like to see a trial of the spelling and thesaurus features, too. NoteTab Pro isn't a tool for casual users, but power users and programmers should find plenty to love.
Publisher's description
From Fookes Software :NoteTab Pro is a code-based HTML editor and powerfulNotepad replacement. It lets you open as many documents as system resources will allow, each with its own tab in a special tab bar. Documents can be up to 16 megabytes each. Features include a Clipbook tool for handling text clips, HTML tag highlighting, spelling checker, thesaurus, automatic indentation, and support for templates and outline documents. NoteTab Pro can also strip HTML tags; read and write files in DOS, Unix, or Mac format; sort, join, split, and indent lines; change character case and text alignment; convert between ASCII and ANSI; and calculate mathematical expressions. With version 4.51, the Clipbook tool is now programmable and provides commands to execute Perl and Gawk scripts. Other enhancements include a Clipbook wizard, an HTML color picker, and improved HTML tag highlighting. This is a 30-day trial version.
