"Best Family Program Monitoring System I Know Of"

    September 10, 2011  |   By LeisaSD

    Version: Norton Safety Minder 1

    Pros

Blocks web sites through catergories or from webs sites you put in individually, and allow those you put in. I put it on any computer my son uses and manages it from the central web site. I love it! Works great for me and my son.

    Cons

It allows my son to disable itself sometimes (may be it's doing it by itself). "Also some web sites are categorized wrongly (school web sites categorized as porno, etc). Makes it difficult.

    "Too cumbersome with leaks"

    February 7, 2011  |   By horsecracking

    Version: Norton Safety Minder 1

    Pros

Liked the idea of discussion safety with children and being able to control not just log-on hours but total hours used but ...

    Cons

it allowed access to porn, sent e-mails about many sites that didn't work when I tried to review them (apparently pop-up ads), and when want to add a site for child, have to log into your e-mail rather than just being able to have it added on the go.

    Summary

After frustration of use and finding it didn't block problem sites, I went back to using Windows Vista controls with better success (though will continue to look for something I like better). At least there were no problem with uninstalling it.

    "Doesn't work!"

    August 3, 2009  |   By cnh5484

    Version: Norton Safety Minder 1

    Pros

Great idea, and very user friendly

    Cons

Disables itself with no warning. Very unreliable.

    Summary

I trusted this program, but my son got exposed to Adult nudity & porn. Thankfully, he's very honest and immediately reported the incident to me. I don't trust this program, and I don't recommend it. Hopefully Norton will get the bugs fixed before they start charging for the program in Jan 2010.
