"user fiendly excellence"
Version: Norton AntiVirus 2013 beta
Pros
easy downlowd, fast scans, very user friendly with in depth logging and tracking, dont bog down other programs like others and has blocked all security holes, no problems at all with this one.
Cons
only con i have with this program--it isnt free--lol
Summary
I would highly recomend this to anyone from a beginner to a novice or pro.I generaly try alot of programs and utilities, some work some dont--this one does-and it dont include alot of useless information in logging. It tells you alot of info on problems and fixes them. IM very impressed, i rate it near the best of programs for security.
This review was based on at least 1 year of usage against 4 of the previous top 3 products of the previous years.

"So Close, Yet So Far Away"
Version: Norton AntiVirus 2013 beta
Pros
Strong protection
Fast/Negligible Sysem Impact
Visually attractive UICons
Nightmare to work with. Want to OK (whitelist) a false positive? (Almost) impossible in some cases, *completely* impossible in others.
Lots of false positives.Summary
Norton AV is fast. Norton AV is effective. This beta version is free and I get (an earlier version) free from my ISP. So, how come I don't use it and tell everyone *I* know to stay far, far away? Sanity.
IF you value your sanity THEN you will NEVER let this near your system. Why? Get a false positive (and there are lots) and you (in some cases) can't do anything about it. It just flat out won't let you run it. In other cases, it makes it so difficult you'll probably just give up. Or lose your sanity.
So, who cares about whitelisting false positives? They've got this thing called "ws.reputation". No way (that *I* can see) to disable it and if it sees a file that it hasn't seen before that acts (to it) suspiciously, it'll trigger an alert and prevent it from running. Why is that a problem? IF you are a developer, that's a BIG problem. I am not a developer, but I have a bunch of batch files that I've converted to executables. The details aren't important but Norton AV freaks out EVERY TIME I run these *benign* programs (and I know they are benign because I created them myself and I know what they do). It just flat out refuses to allow them; nothing I can do. Unfortunately, the problems don't stop there and there are COUNTLESS other false positives that it causes problems over.
The point is, Norton AV is WAAAAY too much of a Big Brother program that interferes with the way that I work. It shouldn't do that. OTHERS don't do that. And it makes this program one that I stay away from.
Avast Free is much, much better. It doesn't score as well as Norton AV on some tests (though better on others) but I've never had a single problem with it. Avast Free is (even) lighter on resources than Norton, to the point where I don't even notice it. AND Avast doesn't go all Big Brother on you. IF it detects a false positive (and it is VERY rare that it does) it allows you to EASILY fix the problem.
Would I use Norton AV if they were to fix this whitelist issue? Yes. But they haven't. And they probably won't. So I won't.
I am sticking with Avast AND I give the idiots who designed Norton AV a BIG (BIG) thumbs down. -

"Still The Best"
Version: Norton AntiVirus 2013 beta
Pros
Negligible system impact, speedy installation, constant updates, very quick scans, catches everything. I've learned to trust it even when I'm pretty sure it is a false positive because it is usually right and I am usually wrong.
Cons
Frustrating procedure to whitelist a false positive. In fact, I usually just give up. Don't understand why it has to be so complicated and, sometimes, impossible.
Summary
What can I say? I LOVE this thing. Before I found this, I switched AV's *regularly*; trying to find one that was light but effective. Since I tried Norton, I haven't switched in over a year.
My experience was that Kaspersky & Bitdefender were far too slow, Nod32 & AVG too ineffective, Trend & Panda both too slow and too ineffective, MSSE too uncertain, Avira too cumbersome and heavy. Avast 5 Pro is a good alternative but Norton is still lighter on resources and mostly problem free. -
"I USED to love norton NOT ANYMORE"
Version: Norton AntiVirus 2013 beta
Pros
zip zero zilch nada
Cons
I downloaded it had to reboot my pc to get it to start up then i started a full scan at 4pm Central time and by 8pm Central time the damned thing STILL WAS NOT DONE
Summary
I got fed up after 4 hours of scanning and just decided to stop it and no i didn't have any other programs running at the time that i was running the full scan and my hard drive is barely half full with plenty of RAM so its ridiculous to think that after 4 hours of scanning norton has turned into a big steaming pile of CRAP i DO NOT recommend this antivirus system!

"Good product - advanced over previous versions."
Version: Norton AntiVirus 2013 beta
Pros
Up to date state of the art product.
Cons
CNET download.com lists it as "free". I uninstalled some other freeware thinking that this product was free as stated. Then after installing it I found out from Norton that it is only valid for a 14 day trial period.
Summary
Do not download it if you think that it is good indefinitely like other freeware - it is not - it is only valid for 14 days.
