Though some popups are just annoying and should never clutter my screen, some can be relevant, depending on the dignity of the site I'm visiting. This way I can keep the few popups I may want to see.
If a company releases many of the same popups under slightly different names, the Wildcard can eliminate large groups of popups without my having to specify each one. In truth, the Wildcard can block any file or program with the specified phrase in its name, making it an interesting and useful tool even for other purposes. -

Summary
I used to use a free pop-up blocker called popup killer. The person who made this was no longer able to support it (no sponsorship - he designed it and distributed it on his own). I was very disappointed until I found NoAds. It works as well as my old popup killer did. Its a good program, little memory use, and little space - and best of all, it's FREE! What more could you need?

Using XP --- Installs eaisly on XP Home or XP Professional. Very effective against all structures of unwanted pop-ups. Blocks URL and/or Meta Tag name of web page (pop-up) - easy to customize - has Wildcard feature to customize blocks. Updates at your command only. Runs at START UP (your option) and resides in TRAY, but can be turned off anytime. Very small appz (less than 250k) and uses almost no system resources. The appz even works with AOL's lame browser and Opera. When scanned with Lavasoft's Ad-aware, no spyware found. Easy to uninstall.

Works to good to be true. It is true that you see the window for a split second but disapears quickly, you can't even tell what the window was going to show. If you add the window that asks you if you want to debug a web page when it doesn't download properly it blocks that too. It pretty much blocks anything you program it to block, even programs, but I haven't found the use of blocking a program yet. I'm keeping a copy of this program just in case it becomes shareware in the future.

The only drawback is that you have to target unwanted pop-ups. Once that is complete, you never see a pop-up again. I recommend it.

Summary
Of course every ad is not blocked, however a good portion of them are and it has a handy feature to add a target so that particular pop-up will not come up again. Works like a champ for me and I have been using it for at least a year and install this handy little program on other computers in our home.
