Nimbuzz combines a flexible messaging app with the Internet and social media to turn your smartphone into a mobile communications center. With Nimbuzz, you can make unlimited free video and voice calls; chat via video, audio, or text; share files; and more. Nimbuzz is compatible with nearly every device out there. It not only accesses the Nimbuzz network but also Facebook, Yahoo Messenger, MSN, and Gtalk. Got platforms? Nimbus does: Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, BlackBerry, Symbian, and Java. A chat buddy feature lets you tweet, too. Updates include contact blocking and file forwarding.

We installed the Nimbuzz client on our Windows 7 PC. The first thing you need to do after that is to install the Nimbuzz app on your phone or other device. That's much easier than it sounds, and easier than we've seen in similar apps, thanks in part to a simple, wizard-style process that explains each step, including how to search for your device. Nimbuzz really is compatible with a lot of devices, as we learned when we quickly found downloads not only for our brand-spanking-new smartphone but also a not-so-smart-phone designed more than 5 years ago. After finding your device and model on drop-down lists, you must download JAD and JAR files and transfer them via Bluetooth or a USB cable, then open the JAD file and set up Nimbuzz. After that, you just need to create an account. You can do that on your phone, but it's easier to use the Web-based wizard. We clicked Create, filled in the blanks, and signed on in no time. Nimbuzz offers several extras, including the paid NimbuzzOut international calling service, which we didn't try (but we get the appeal).

How Nimbuzz appears on your device depends in part on what that device is (and, like ours, how smart it is) but the basic blue-on-orange look is the same. Once you've set up your address book, phone numbers, links, social media sites, and preferences, you'll be ready to live in the "N-World." Gladly, too: nothing we've seen puts it all in the palm of your hand quite like Nimbuzz.

"Crappy app, crappy support - a total SCAM"

    December 17, 2013   |   By Probuddha

    Version: Nimbuzz Messenger 2.6

    Pros

Their ability to lure you into spending money on their services by promising super cheap international calls.

    Cons

    1. Their International Calling service doesn't work.
    2. The entire service is plagued by errors.
    3. They don't respond to your emails.
    4. They don't issue a refund.
    5. Their partner Spectranet - an equally lousy and unprofessional enterprise.

    Summary

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT spend a single dime with Nimbuzz. They cannot deliver what they promise and the worst part, they don't give a damn to customer emails. Overall, a total cheater and a fraud

"Nimbuzz is Adware - All over your face!"

    July 07, 2013   |   By Linboard

    Version: Nimbuzz Messenger 2.5.2

    Pros

Simple to set up and use, like most other clients are too, and has an intuitive interface.

    Cons

Ads ads ads ads ads - all over your face, all over the place, you can't get away from them either, even though you're paying for your VoIP services!

If you have an earlier version running, don't upgrade or you'll be sorry since they don't offer downloads of the older versions, and they've eliminated the chatrooms too in the desktop client.

My concern is just exactly how intrusive these annoying ads are that eat into your bandwidth - I found that when I used a unique email account when registering that I was inundated with advertising at that address within a couple of weeks of installing and configuring Nimbuzz - but you should arrive at your own conclusions as to how invasive their business model for monitization of this product really is.

It's not cross-platform compatible either. It says so but no Linux version

Maybe next year, after they learn that ads and tracking is NOT the way to obtain or retain customers, but for now I'm uninstalling this application and not looking back.

    Summary

You'll initially enjoy the ease of installation and use this client provides, but it's not completely cross-platform compatible. It says so, but when you go to download the PC version there is only a Windows version - No Linux or BSD.

When I test software for evaluations, I like to use unique personal account information so as to isolate whether advertisers are slipped the noodles of my personal data. After a few weeks I had regular targeted advertising in my inbox, based on my usage characteristics and patterns with the Nimbuzz client.

This is bad business practice in my opinion, and something I didn't opt-in for. Further, I don't like being constantly blasted with advertising when I'm trying to communicate with my friends and business associates - it makes for a very unprofessional looking communications client, not to mention how distracting it is.

Previous versions did not subject the user to this kind of abuse, but you can no longer get those older versions, and the chat room features in the current version have been removed as well.

If you want a straight forward easy to use, and non-intrusive communications client that is completely cross-platform compatible, Nimbuzz certinly does not fit this bill. There is, however, a Java version, but that doesn't really count now does it?

If you're still insistent upon using this client, I recommend that you configure it with unique personal contact info that is disposable to you, and NOT connect to your other social network streams. In this way, you may be able to avoid being tracked and targeted by their advertising channel partners.

Other than that, Nimbuzz runs well on most platforms I tested and is indeed an effective and capable communicator.

"Chat room feature disabled in Nimbuzz Desktop version"

    June 09, 2013   |   By xkater

    Version: Nimbuzz Messenger 2.5.2

    Pros

    dna - does not apply

    Cons

    From the NIMBUZZ.com website (http://www.nimbuzz.com/en/support)
    DESKTOP:
I cannot find Chatroom feature on the PC version

The Chat room feature has been disabled from the Nimbuzz Desktop version for technical reasons. We will consider enable it back in the future.

    Pros

Nimbuzz is a nice and best IM applications from others available in market

    "Upset with latest versions"

    April 20, 2013   |   By gemaroup

    Version: Nimbuzz Messenger 2.5.2

    Pros

Reasonable Nimbuzz out rates (but some others are cheaper) and communication quality is good.

    Cons

Ads everywhere. I'm fed up. Users with credits on their accounts should be able to use an add-free version.

    Summary

I am using older versions to avoid annoying ads.
Nimbuzz used to be a five stars software. Now I am downgrading it to THREE stars. Ads may bring some money to the company but the price for it is losing customers unless another "wiser" strategy is implemented.

    "They ruined it with ads"

    April 10, 2013   |   By jo-dz

    Version: Nimbuzz Messenger 2.5.1

    Pros

Connects to Facebook, Google, and Yahoo
Contact list has a nice UI

    Cons

Not a one-stop-shop since it only connects to 3 other services
Chat window is wide with annoying ads.

    Summary

I used Nimbuzz for a long time back when they connected to Skype and other services. Over time the services supported keep dropping off. I still preferred using Nimbuzz because the UI was compact and looks nice - easy to read, easy to use.

However, with the latest update, they added a "recent chats" window to the left of the conversation and now it's no longer compact. To make it worse, they are injecting ads into that window. I'm very disappointed that they ruined a good product.
