This program helps you join Usenet, a worldwide-distributed discussion system. Although many find Usenet old-fashioned, it has accumulated a huge array of articles on all kinds of subjects. NewsPro's conservative interface lets you browse messages with comfort. The context menu lets you invoke common newsgroup operations such as Download, Save Attachments, and Mark as Read. Unlike many of its competitors, NewsPro displays articles from all news servers for a particular newsgroup in a single list. Every newsgroup can be viewed simultaneously in several ways, such as one view that shows messages with bodies and another that shows messages by a particular author. It displays JPEG images automatically, and other types of attachments appear as icons, opened with a double-click. Dial-up surfers will appreciate the automatic reconnection. NewsPro will satisfy both novices and advanced users.Publisher's description
From NewsPro :NewsPro is an easy-to-use, multitasking newsreader with advanced support for multiple news servers. It allows you to perform searches on servers in a large number of newsgroups. It includes an option for quickly synchronizing newsgroup content with servers for effective downloads of multipart binary attachments. The program can download bodies directly using header information from other servers, thus saving bandwidth. It has options for scheduled or immediate downloads, as well as for downloads with certain priority for article tasks. Several newsgroups can be joined into folders or opened in a single view; several servers can be put into a subset to meet Usenet providers' connection limits. yEnc is fully supported. Posting has been extended to multiple servers and newsgroups can be associated with posting servers and identities. There is support for NZB files.
Version 3.8 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

Version: NewsPro 3.8
Pros: Seems solid enough & works well once you get to grips with it.
Cons: I found the intructions very confusing. It took me 30 mins just to find out how to download the newsgroups from my own ISP. More for the advanced user I would think.

Version: NewsPro 3.8
"Functional and well-engineered"
Summary: To get a sense of how arbitrary and ridiculous the CNET/download.com reviews are, compare their reviews for Xnews and NewsPro. NewsPro's user-interface is probably a little daunting at first, especially to novice users, but it's logical and easy to ... read more >>
