This nifty program provides a calming atmosphere by providing 10 soothing nature-based background sounds you can play on your PC. Since it doesn't do anything else beyond its main job, Natural Ambience's interface is simple to understand, offering four timer presets, a volume slider, an Options icon, and a list of sound effects. Sounds include a waterfall, a thunderstorm, gently rolling waves, rain, and a heartbeat. We found all sound effects to be both realistic and relaxing, although the indian-chant setting actually frayed our nerves instead of mellowing them. It would be nice if the application let you tweak the speed of the sound effects; for instance, we thought the water in the Tranquil Stream setting flowed too fast to be entirely calming. Clicking the Options button lets you enable the application's bundled background music or add your own music files. We suggest you avoid the former, which ruins the overall atmosphere with cheesy MIDI-based tunes. All told, Natural Ambience makes a good tool for the stressed-out and sleep deprived, although filmmakers and musicians looking for basic sound effects might find it handy as well.

Price would be OK if it worked.
Cons
Natural Ambience hung during Win7-64bit install while registering fonts. Automatic Win7 offer to correct older installations also failed.
Summary
Can NOT recommend it for Windows 7 64-bit systems.

All sounds are user-controllable. An EQ would be nice but it's ok without it.

Summary
Although I'm still testing this software, it seems to do everything it is supposed to do. It certainly helps with my working concentration and focus. If anyone allegedly know of a better package for the money, I say speak now or for ever hold your piece!

Clean & simple interface. Effectively blocks external noise if you're a cubicle dweller. And there's a really effective background music option to reduce stress. NIce!
Cons
There's a range of masking sounds but only a few are worthy, to these ears anyway.
Summary
If you're looking for something to relax you and/or block out sounds around you, THIS is the best out there, IMHO.

The program is slow and pretty much useless. The sound quality is poor and there are only 10 sounds? In addition, when I was surfing on their site my F-Secure firewall alert me for a html exploit that came from that page. After checking their website with site advisor here is what I get:

When we tested this site we found links to softpicks.net, which we found to be a distributor of downloads some people consider adware, spyware or other unwanted programs.

It is very weird that the editor at download.com gave it 4/5. Why?

In a world that is increasingly becoming filled with stressful sounds and noises people everywhere are discovering the Healing benefits of sound therapy, just look in your local department store where you will find large selections of Sound Machines that recreate Nature Soundscapes . The problem with some of these machines is that the quality of the sound is usually poor due to the fact that they are cheaply made, whereas your standard PC sound card is capable of CD quality audio. Natural Ambience takes advantage of this fact to dynamically recreate high quality Nature Soundscapes on any standard PC that has a soundcard.
