CNET Editors' review
It couldn't be easier to scan for lost files on your system, but this program's demo version doesn't allow you to save what it finds. NTFS Data Recovery requires little user intervention. The interface resembles Windows Explorer and the commands are found in easily recognizable toolbar buttons as well as on the File menu.
Using the simple wizard, you need only select an available drive and hit the start button. How long the scan takes depends on the size of the drive. NTFS Data Recovery is great at letting you know how the scan is progressing. You can see the minutes elapsed, percentage complete, and how many files have been found. Once complete, found files are displayed with columns for file name, type, size, and create date. You easily can sort by any column. As with Windows Explorer, additional information and options are shown in a right-hand sidebar. This includes details, which shows what was scanned and the prognosis for recovery.
Unlike some programs that let you restore a few files as proof of the recovery process, NTFS Data Recovery requires you to register the program before you can save the found files. If you're willing to take it on trust that it can actually recover what it finds, this program is exceptionally easy to use.

"Refused to recognize the damaged drive."
Version: NTFS Data Recovery 2.5
Pros
It was free to try. No harm done.
Cons
The drive in need of repair did not even show up in the dialogue box. If the demo is limited to only one drive then the description should say so.
Summary
I neither like nor dislike this product . . . it simply did not serve my needs, ie. recognizing and restoring files on a hard drive. Other demo programs like Easy Recovery and Pandora Recovery and GetDataBack found files Beware, though, the program wants to put a "Smart PC Toolbar" in your Internet Explorer browser. If you care about your privacy, do not accept the offer. May you have better luck with this program than I did.
