"Mozy Home has lost my support (v 2.6.7.0)"
Version: MozyHome Remote Backup 1.16.1.3
Pros
Relative easy to use; quick; inexpensive.
Cons
Recent releases have muddle interface; support has significantly deteriorated; price has increased.
Summary
I have long been a fan of Mozy, and have recommended it to many friends. Now I find myself shopping for a new product.
The interface (never the best) has changed slightly and now I spend even longer looking for what I want. They recently increased their price by 20% (yeah, from $4.95 to $5.99!).
My current issue is where once their support was very good, now I feel their goal is simply to close the problem report without regard to if the problem has been resolved. In my experience, this is a sign of a company pursuing poor quality. -
"Was good 2 years ago, now unable to backup, end service"
Version: MozyHome Remote Backup 1.16.1.3
Pros
Used to work flawlessly a few years ago until the new client came out.
Cons
Unable to backup any more. Service is stuck for 6 hours in phase "Calculating size of backup." Tech support couldn't help. Waited 45 minutes before talking to tech guy. Tech support guy didn't know what to do except to suggest a reboot.
Summary
The early versions of Mozy ran flawlessly. It seems after Mozy was bought by Decho CorpThe early versions of Mozy ran flawlessly. It seems after Mozy was bought by Decho Corp. the service went south. No longer did new version of Mozy client show the time estimate of how long the backup would last and neigther was is able to throttle the CPU usage and bandwidth usage. I don't understand why they have removed these features. Last year my backups were interrupted by the mysterious error 17 until they release a patch on their servers. To give Mozy credit it did fix error 17. But now until 17 days ago backup no longer work. The service is stuck in phase "Calculating size of backup". My Internet connection is working, no blocking of firewall or anti-virus and mozybackup.exe consumes 45% CPU. Yet after 6 hours of "calculating size of backup" no change. After having to wait 45 minutes for Mozy's "Live Chat", Tim the tech rep, had no clue what to do, except to suggest a reboot of my computer. Then I had to wait for another 1 hour until I could speak with him which lead to nothing. There is one good thing that came out of this wait: I had time to review other backup services. I am looking now at Idrive.com for Windows without mobile backups.
I forgot that Mozy changed my subscription: no longer unlimited and now for $129 for 2 years. -
"One word - BAD"
Version: MozyHome Remote Backup 1.16.1.3
Pros
I started using it many years ago, it was great
Cons
The technology is very unstable, have been fighting with it for months, the only way it would work is if I installed an old version, now the application forces the install of the new so it doesn't work on my computer. The support team is very weak.
Summary
I had to change company.

"Mozy removes files from "backup" without telling you!"
Version: MozyHome Remote Backup 1.16.1.3
Pros
Has been unintrusive and fast at backup until last catastrophic "update"
Cons
Mozy changes anything they want to your backup scheme, at any time, without telling you. So, You *think* your files are backed up, in facts all the "backups" are periodically simply removed without notice.
Summary
I have run Mozy for 1 year or 2 (I got it "free" with a 2GB limit, bundled with an iOmega external HD). This was NOT my only backup, and as an additional one, it was fine, unintrusive, used little of my resources and time. I had selected 700MB of stuff to "backup", so to have no problem with the 2GB limit, but I never tried a restore. So this "backup" was actually worth zero, as is any "backup" as long as you have not tried and tested from start to end a restore from it.
Now a few months ago I started to receive emails from Mozy, trying to get me buy an upgrade. Then others requesting I "update" the software, which I accepted. And today I receive a warning from Mozy saying that my 4.3GB backup exceeds my account, so the files in excess are not backed. I look at the software, and discover another warning: because of lack of space, my files have NOT been backed for 7 days!! Then I try to open the window where I had selected the files to backup: it's gone, and replaced with a totally different window, where it's much more difficult to browse the said files; it appears Mozy defined by itself the files to backup, in a way totally different from mine, absolutely irrelevant to my activities and very unclear; and while doing that, of course Mozy simply dropped the 700MB set of files I had carefully selected!! This, while I was relying on Mozy as a backup! Fortunately I happen to have never needed to restore any part of it.
No need to say, I immediately uninstalled Mozy from my computer and will NEVER allow them to touch ANYTHING in my computer. I give it 1 star (extremely rare from me) because I can't give less. The favorable reviews above must be, either written by shills from Mozy and CNET, or by Fast Posters (who post faster than they can think or check). Please everyone be useful to others, and spread the word: NEVER USE (not only never buy) ANYthing from Mozy!
Given the reviews usually found on CNET I can't be sure they will post this comment and keep it posted... but I *must* try anyway

"No Longer Interested in Home Consumer Business"
Version: MozyHome Remote Backup 1.16.1.3
Pros
Had a good run for several years.
Was cost-effective and relatively stable.Cons
Recent software releases (2.0+) have been buggy.
New pricing structure makes it no longer cost-effective for users with more than 50 - 100Gb of data. As folks are storing more and larger files, the effected group will grow.Summary
This used to be a great company for your fire-and-forget home backup solutions. They have apparently chosen to abandon the consumer backup market by dropping their unlimited offerings, drastically increasing prices, and rolling out the changes in such a way as to seemingly purposefully alienate a significant portion of their customer base (25% by their public estimates so likely much higher).
A big part of offsite, online backup storage is the time spent on the initial upload from your local drives. Since Mozy has now shown a) a willingness to drastically reduce the horizon for their customers and b) an unwillingness to support/accommodate long-term users, I would strong encourage those considering the service to not start a long-term relationship with this company. Again, this is all speculation since their public communications on this change have been largely opaque -- but it seems like either a) they're moving out of this industry market intentionally or b) they're in the kind of serious financial distress that would trigger such a Hail Mary pricing change. Either way, neither option points towards a long-term viability. And long-term viability is what large, offsite/online backup solutions are all about. -
"backs up almost seamlessly"
Version: MozyHome Remote Backup 1.16.1.3
Pros
easy to download and setup
runs by itselfCons
I do get periodic error messages teeling me back up was paused and some files were not backed up. I can't figure out why, even though they send information about it each time. It is too hard for me to follow.

"HAZARDOUS."
Version: MozyHome Remote Backup 1.16.1.3
Pros
Good if the show stopper cons are taken care of
Cons
1) Free version removes backed up data after 30 days. I assume people want to back up to reduce their headache-why take on another headache of remembering the 30 day limit.
2)Auto sync removes backup if you remove it from your source folder.Summary
I intensely dislike the vendors of this software because users are not supposed to look into all these aspects and could easily lose their backups. The vendor should make these clear prominently and upfront-to be fair to them this information is given but it has to be discovered.

"Works great and it's free!"
Version: MozyHome Remote Backup 1.16.1.3
Pros
Works great and it's free!
Cons
Doesn't make coffee...

"Have used MOZY for 2 years - best cloud-based solution."
Version: MozyHome Remote Backup 1.16.1.3
Pros
Highly customizable, 2 GB free for folks that don't need a lot of storage, or $5 / month for UNLIMITED cloud backup - I have over 470 GB (yes that is GB) stored with MOZY for $5 a month and it's off-site, which is ridiculously cheap.
Cons
Requires a fast up-speed connection. Cable and FiOS users will have no problem. If you use DSL, then your upload speeds are may be very slow - which is not MOZY's fault. If you use CLEAR or another 4G service - forget it.
Summary
As long as you have a decent internet connection, in my opinion, MOZY is the absolute best cloud storage solution. I have had to use it to restore data numerous times, and NEVER had a problem. The site provides excellent guides for setting up the client software, restoring data, etc. ***TIP - make sure you have Windows set to "Display System Files and Folders", as this allows you to back them up with MOZY. You can find it in Control Panel ---> Folder Option ---> Show hidden files and folders

"Poor Tech Support & Serious Problems for Power Users"
Version: MozyHome Remote Backup 1.16.1.3
Pros
Affordable, easy to use interface, one of the few backups that gives you lots of ways to restore including a virtual drive on your computer, web downloads, and DVD via mail.
Cons
Mozy version 2.0 has major issues. Read the user reviews for yourself on their public support forum:
http://community.mozy.com/t5/Mozy-for-Windows/Windows-Client-2-0-Fix-for-Setup-Hanging-and-Backup-Hanging/td-p/1124/page/3Summary
I was a satisfied customer while using version 1. Mozy encouraged existing users to upgrade to version 2. I did and for the following four weeks it could not connect to their servers or perform a backup. After nearly two hours on chat with tech support, I realized all of their solutions were gimmicks. I began reading the user forums (see link above), and my problem was a known issue! The only solution is to downgrade to an old version (and spend two days letting it reverify all of your data), or to wait a month for a new release of 2.2 to come out.
If you want to see other user responses to the lack of concern from Mozy, go to the community forums on their web site and read it for yourself:
http://community.mozy.com/t5/Mozy-for-Windows/bd-p/MozyClientForWindows
I am struggling to trust a company with my data that releases a product without enough beta testing resulting in lack of usability, that refuses to initially own up to the problem, and that does not train tech support about such known issues.
