CNET Editors' review
Mozilla's Thunderbird comes into its own with version 2.0, offering features and innovations that take aim at both Web mail clients and industry standards like Microsoft's Outlook.
The program loads fast, even when weighed down by multiple folders and RSS feeds, and the basic feature set remains intact: good junk mail filters, HTML support, multiple identities, and POP, IMAP, and Microsoft Exchange server support. Security features include S/MMIE, digital signing, message encryption, and a built-in phishing detector. Interface tweaks maximize message viewing, an obvious necessity in an e-mail reader.
What makes this freeware e-mail client such a serious contender are the new features. Back and forward buttons, like you have in your Web browser, let you jump through messages in the order that you viewed them. Customizable tag names and colors make it a cinch to keep things organized, even across dozens of message folders. The folder pane is customizable. Gmail and Mac users will find configuration as simple as entering your e-mail address and password, with rumored support forthcoming for other Web-based providers. Search results can be saved, and Thunderbird has Firefox's extension capability, allowing for user-designed tweaks that greatly enhance the program.
Flexible, powerful, and lightweight, Thunderbird 2 is an appropriate companion app to Mozilla's Firefox in every way.

"Great product from the Mozilla team of course...."

Pros
Full of features, very quick in checking and downloading mail. Add-ons are always nice.
Cons
I did find it a bit difficult to set up at the beginning.
-
"Great, but if you have GMail...."
Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.6
Pros
Thunderbird is great and completely matches Firefox, but if you have Gmail, there really is no reason to move from your browser. You'll see all your mail in Courier font, and you can't do Gmail chat.

"Great Email Client"
Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.6
Pros
Easy to customize and automatic updates for client versio ns, themes, and add-ons are very convenient. Also very friendly on the eye.
Cons
Outlook 2007 automatically imports email settings when adding a new account, unfortunately you must do this manually on Thunderbird.

"User-friendly, even for email newbiew"
Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.6
Pros
TBird has a nice look and feel. It's easy to set up, especially for GMail.
Cons
I'm not really crazy about how it handles graphics, and I don't like how you have to physically add a sender to your contacts list in order to get it to display the graphics. That's just a small annoyance, however. All-in-all, it's a pretty nice email client.

"Totally unstable. Would reload entire mail account everytime it crashed."
Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.6
Cons
Crashed right after install and again when I tried to delete an e-mail for the first time. Had to reload the entire mail account everytime it crashed. Tried rebooting and re-installing but it crashed evertime it did something new. It blocked e-mail graphics and crashed when I tried to turn them on. It kept downloading the same e-mails fromt the server over and over again, then would crash when I tried to delete the extra e-mails.

"It was fine for several months but has now lost it home screen ,"
Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.6
Pros
It might be good that it does not load new email until asked for.
Cons
It was working fine but last week, the opening screen went away. I can no long select Inbox, Outbox, Sent, Deleted Items. Not much use this way so I'm back to OE.
I see no way of asking this simple question to Mozzilla Thunderbird site.
Can I reload without loosing the files already there?
