CNET Editors' review
Mozilla's Thunderbird comes into its own with version 2.0, offering features and innovations that take aim at both Web mail clients and industry standards like Microsoft's Outlook.
The program loads fast, even when weighed down by multiple folders and RSS feeds, and the basic feature set remains intact: good junk mail filters, HTML support, multiple identities, and POP, IMAP, and Microsoft Exchange server support. Security features include S/MMIE, digital signing, message encryption, and a built-in phishing detector. Interface tweaks maximize message viewing, an obvious necessity in an e-mail reader.
What makes this freeware e-mail client such a serious contender are the new features. Back and forward buttons, like you have in your Web browser, let you jump through messages in the order that you viewed them. Customizable tag names and colors make it a cinch to keep things organized, even across dozens of message folders. The folder pane is customizable. Gmail and Mac users will find configuration as simple as entering your e-mail address and password, with rumored support forthcoming for other Web-based providers. Search results can be saved, and Thunderbird has Firefox's extension capability, allowing for user-designed tweaks that greatly enhance the program.
Flexible, powerful, and lightweight, Thunderbird 2 is an appropriate companion app to Mozilla's Firefox in every way.

"A great software"
Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0
Pros
Even if most people are still working with the Office Outlook programs I chosed to convert to Mozille Thunderbird for number of reasons.
1. The design is fantastic, simple and modern in the same time.
2. If you are satisfied using Mozilla Firefox you might also find Thunderbird easier to navigate than the recent Outlooks (like the 2003/2007 version)
3. There is not a bit slower than Outlook or any other email softwares.
Cons
Even if I prefer Thunderbird over Outlook, it will probably be harder to navigate for a user who never been using any of the Mozilla material that is out there already.

"Good for what I need it for."
Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0
Pros
Personally, I prefer an online e-mail interface, and I use G-Mail. But I do use Thunderbird for backup reasons (I have over 2400 e-mails, and losing them would be awful). I used Thunderbird for a short while for sending e-mails, so I can say that the interface is easy enough, and it's integrated RSS reader fits in nicely.
Cons
I haven't really encountered any problems with Thunderbird, but many others say that it's pretty full of bugs.

"Better than OE...in some ways no"
Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0
Pros
Free. Easy to download, install and use. (Try replacing a corrupt copy of OE.) Self configuring, mostly. Automatic updates (not always at a good time). Lots of add-ons suited for specific needs. Display of pictures in viewer not bothered as OE is with blanks & special chatacters.
Cons
Layout cumbersome & takes up too much space on the screen. List of multiple attachments can make the preview window so small picture files can't be viewed. Standard options are often not what I'd pick & difficult to change. Saving files takes a very long time. OE must perform this in the background because it seems instantaneous but T-bird hangs as attachments are saved...if there are a lot of them, get a drink. OE with dial-up took less time then T-bird with DSL. Help files more difficult to access.
