CNET Editors' review
Read CNET senior editor Rob Vamosi's extended review of Firefox 2, or watch a video tour of the new features.
Even though Internet Explorer dominates the Web browser market, you might wonder why if you spend some time with Mozilla Firefox. This light and nimble Web wonder brought tabbed browsing into the mainstream (IE7 recently jumped on the bandwagon) and offers countless ways to customize it through extensions and themes. Drag-and-drop tabs with individual close buttons help keep your content organized the way you like, and you can further streamline your browsing through the use of extensive hot keys. You'll find all of the regular options and features required for surfing the Web in the default setup, but the groundbreaking features come with the thousands of third-party extensions. Likewise, if you don't like the look of the default interface, there are hundreds of slick themes to use, though many weren't updated for version 2 at its release.
Firefox is the perfect browser for those involved with Web design and coding. A JavaScript debugger comes standard, and Firefox displays the page-source code in a new window, using indents and color-coded tags similar to an HTML editor. The built-in pop-up blocker works great for most sites, and new antiphishing protections and enhanced security for extensions are in the version 2 release. Anyone looking for a full-featured browser with seemingly endless ways to customize should download this powerhouse.

"My Favorite App"
Version: Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.9
Pros
So much better than IE. I'll never go back.
Cons
Too many add-ons will slow it down. Just stick to the ones you use.

Cons
Nothing

"Not as fast as people say it is!"
Version: Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.9
Pros
Well it's usable if IE7 is being unreliable. And it's a bit safer.
Cons
I didn't see how it was faster than IE7 or Opera. Unless it was my U3 version, but it was a lot slower than IE7 so I didn't really get anywhere with it..Everything else about it better such as powerful plugins and nice skins.

"The best browser around!"
Version: Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.9
Pros
Mozilla Firefox is undoubtedly the leader in the much touted 'browser wars'. It is fast and stable. It has a neat user interface and good looks. But what makes it stand apart is it's customizability . The user is the owner of the way s/he wants to experience the web. The countless add-ons that cover a wide variety of fields and functionalities make surfing the web a pleasurable experience. Certainly, it's add-ons make it difficult to beat.
IE simply pales in comparison to Firefox. Even IE7 comes nowhere near. Netscape Navigator is good and a reasonable alternative, but lacks the customizability of Firefox . Opera is great; sleek, fast and innovative. Once again, the limited availability of plug-ins makes it a close second for me.
And all those lower rung browsers like Slim Browser and Avant etc aren't even in the reckoning.
Cons
Zealously installing many add-ons may lead to crashes, as some of them have been reported to have had such 'crashing effects'. Also, the smooth scrolling feature is not as 'smooth' as Opera's.
Notwithstanding the small glitches, it's the best you can have!

"If you ever use Firefox you will never go back to Internet Explorer 7, ever."
Version: Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.9
Pros
The "find on this page" feature under edit is the greatest. Flash player works flawlessly every time. The variety of plugins is awesome. I have never had a download to fail yet. I really recommend Firefox.

"Well done, great job. It's fast and the best yet I have seen."

"Its just OK... But old Firefox was excellent"
Version: Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.9
Pros
Its cool and very fast compared to all Internet browsers. An excellent feature of pop-up blocker is also very good.
Cons
It does not support Yahoo! Mail Beta, orkut (IT DOES OPEN), Picasa Web Albums and can't download and install fonts to read some pages in other languages
-
"best alternative to ie7"
