- "A skillful and secure Web-surfing tool"
- Version reviewed: Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.4
As more users continue to abandon Internet Explorer, Mozilla's popular Firefox gains traction in the browser space. Version 1.5 of Firefox offers a few notable features, foremost of which is the ability to reorder tabs by dragging and dropping them. You'll also find a tool that lets you quickly clean up your surfing history with two clicks of the mouse or a hot-key combo. The latest iteration of the browser seems more responsive than it has in the past and also is more efficient; with 10 windows open, Firefox consumed slightly less RAM than either IE or Opera.
If you're new to Firefox entirely, you'll appreciate the other features, including the RSS feeds, the JavaScript debugger, the basic download manager, and the ability to search several popular sites (such as Google) directly from the address bar. You can easily create toolbars by dragging and dropping icons. More technically minded users will appreciate that Firefox displays the page source in a new window, using indents and color-coded tags like an HTML editor. The built-in pop-up blocker is still extremely effective, and Firefox's reuptation for tight security is still well deserved. Anyone who's tired of IE will find more than one reason to like this free alternative.

Version: Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.4
"Evolving & adapting to the web with style."
Pros: I was concerned about was not being able to view all pages that I visit, well, thanks to this browsers open-source developers, there is an extension called IE tab. Which means, you can type the address and click the IE tab and it will render using IE in the Firefox browser. That alone is a great adaptation. In addition, this browser is fast from the get go. Compared with Opera (not Avant) Opera is slighlty faster but you may not even notice. The layout is very easy to customize with drag and drop ability and changing its appearance it just as easy with plenty of available skins. I have also found that the extensions available add to the functionality of this browser either by increasing speed (fasterfox & firetune extensions) but also ad-blocking extensions that seem to be more effective than most that I have tried besides admuncher. The speed is rated at great/excellent and for the stability, it's one of the most stable (if not THE most stable) browser available. I have had Opera 8.54 crash a couple times on me, Firefox, none thus far. Surfing with this new release for a couple of days and actually not getting deterred by the number of extensions, you'll find that you have to make this browser "your own" which makes it feel even more unique and comfortable to use. This browser has and will continue to find areas of development that may not even seem like they need improvement but will find a way to make it better and faster. Compared the Opera, the earlier releases of Opera seemed better (stability and speed) which brings me to say that with the latest releases of Opera and Firefox, Firefox has this release won by a "customizable" margin. If you haven't tried this browser or you've tried earlier versions and gave up, come back, have a cup of coffee and get to know this browser that is popular for numerous reasons.
Cons: There are scripting vulnerabilities that are disclosed in yahoo tech newsletter. This scripting vulnerability is also on the completely patched IE6 too. BUT, Firefox has fast answers, an extension called "NO SCRIPT" which will allow you to customize permissions from sites that require scripting.

Version: Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.4
Pros: Firefox has no Active X, which makes it alot safer than IE (any version). The most customizable browser around and the most user friendly. In addition to Firefox, I've used IE 7 (Beta 2), Netscape Browser 8.1, and AOL Explorer (1.2.5 & 1.5). This browser is clearly the best.
Cons: Not all websites work correctly on Firefox, but this applies to less websites than in the past. Get the IE Tab extension to get around this problem.

Version: Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.4
Pros: Great, more secure and less vulnerable to hackers, very customizable and quicker for things to be fixed than IE.
Cons: None! Maybe Forecast Fox and paste and go extensions should be included by default!
