From Participatory Culture:Miro makes video on the Internet less frustrating and more enjoyable. You can subscribe to channels of Internet video, download videos, and watch them full screen, one after the other, all in one application. Internet video becomes Internet TV.
Version 0.9.8.1 changes the name to Miro from Democracy Player, adds shortcuts to all platforms, improves the Windows system-tray functionality, adds Veoh.com as a search engine, and fixes several bugs.

- Version reviewed: Miro 0.9.8.1
Providing one-stop shopping for all your video needs, open-source Miro deserves much of the praise that's been heaped upon it.
The concept is brilliant, yet simple: create a video player that can subscribe to and download video podcasts while comprehensively managing your saved videos. On the face of it, this might sound like iTunes, but the sharing component is an essential aspect of the program. Miro has always been geared toward video and it shows in the program's design. When you launch the app, a left sidebar hosts a folder tree for managing your videos. The central pane does double duty for viewing videos and searching for new ones. The bottom hosts a search box for parsing through Google, YouTube, Yahoo, and others, a video control panel, and a volume control.
Features include full torrent support, so you can download and view torrents in the same app; folder watching to manage only the hard-drive folders you specify for new videos; resumable playback; channel surfing, which organizes video feeds by topic; video sharing and hosting; and assistance in creating videos.
Miro Public Preview 3 includes a startup guide, permalinks, search-result memory, and a much more stable platform.

Version: Miro 0.9.8.1
"Beats juiced, nimiq, tvtonic, prime time podcast, synclosure, bitscast, doppler."
Pros: man I've been searching for a good video podcast receiver for a long time, maybe a year or so... and I have finally found it. This has solid channel add capability with download settings for each subscription for how long to keep the file, when to download, and when to check for updates. I like the fact that it integrates video player into the program to make people's life easier, bittorrent support is a big plus also. Best of all.. free, cross platform, with ACTIVE developers unlike the other programs.
Cons: This is a bit slow compared to simple programs like bitcast or juiced. Some basic functions are missing like bandwidth control, scheduler for bandwidth, and refresh all channel button.. but they are coming along.. great hopes for this program.

Version: Miro 0.9.8.1
Pros: I reeeeealy like this software. Yes, it is missing a few features right now, but with everything it offers for free, it doesn't get much better. I was able to finally ditch the Quacktime player, and its strange desire to boot with my computer. It plays just about any file I want. On top of that, it searches YouTube. For a player that is still in BETA, this things awesome. If you don't like it, well, it just means you either want to pay for something or you like having multiple players.
Cons: OK, sometimes it has a few problems trying to skip through video. Other than that, I get to watch the Ask A Ninja podcast without leaving my player :)
