Editors' Review

Miro Video Converter for Mac's clean interface makes it easy to convert any video file into other formats for use on a broad range of media devices. It's a basic freeware option that works well for a variety of formats and devices.

After installation Miro Video Converter for Mac opens to a clean interface with intuitive controls. The main menu features basic options to open video files and includes a useful Help file. Users may import video files by opening them through the main menu or by dragging and dropping them into the interface. The program's main menu features four buttons labeled "Apple," "Android," "Other," and "Format," which control the output for the file being converted. Clicking these buttons gives users specific device options for each manufacturer, including the iPhone, iPad, Android devices, Kindle Fire, PlayStation Portable, and more. Once selected, video and audio conversions begin after clicking the big, green convert button located underneath the format buttons. Converted files output to a user-designated location, and users may select to convert to mobile, MP4, and OGG Theora video outputs, and MP3 or OGG Vorbis audio outputs. For testing purposes we used an MP4 video clip that was two minutes in length. The application took from around a couple of seconds to five minutes to complete each conversion, depending on the format we chose. While audio and most video outputs were satisfactory, conversion to OGG format resulted in low quality.

Miro Video Converter for Mac offers a free solution for users seeking to convert video and audio files for use on other devices. While this video converter might be useful to some users, others who are looking to convert their videos to OGG format should look elsewhere.

"Would be good if not for abysmal OGV output"

Batching, which is new in this version.
Conversion mov -> WebM works nicely

OGV output is horrible, and there's no way to configure any options. Version 2 of Miro Converter had good OGV output - I compared converting the same source with both versions.

"Great software, let down by poor OGV output"

Intuitive, simple interface
Encode queue
Supports myriad input formats
Solves the problem of converting video for use on the web easily

OGG output is bad
No way to adjust output settings other than video frame dimensions
Queue doesn't allow for video-by-video settings, which means you have to run a batch job for each format you want to output

Would be a near-perfect little app if it wasn't for these glaring problems.

"Give us back version 2 please!"

Better looking interface than previous versions

Dangerously unstable. First use: produced a 3.7 MB mp4 file from a 35 MB mov file. Impressive! Until I tried to open it. The mp4 turned out to be the only thing which ever froze everything on my Mac solid except for the cursor.

Pull v3 and give us back v2 please: that worked fine for me.

"Horrible, Useless, Waste of Time!"

None, well, it looks nice...

1. Took 1GIG movie files and created one 35 mb & one 6mb DOCUMENT files!
2. Neither would open, or play.
3. Noticed my CPU Usage showed two FFMpeg files using nearly 200% EACH! I force quit them, then the two results of this pos software also (thankfully) disappeared.
4. There are ZERO instructions or preferences!
5. Truthfully one of the worst programs I've ever seen....

I wish I had never heard of this program, it's terrible, useless, and maddening...
