Miranda IM lacks the slick design of most IM programs, but makes up for it by supporting most IM programs in one fully customizable package. It's easy to add your various IM accounts--including AIM, Yahoo, ICQ and MSN--and you'll have the same icons and status messages for each program. You can even manage the personal information for all your accounts from one central control panel.
Miranda IM's plain, gray instant-messaging window offers just the basics for typing and viewing messages; you won't find the text formatting options, emoticons, or links that a program like Yahoo Messenger offers. You will find numerous options to customize how chat or IM windows behave, including a handy option to have messages from a specific person always appear in the same location on your screen. You also can assign hot keys for a few actions like opening the program or reading a message.
Miranda IM is offered as freeware. You'll give up some of the unique features of your IM programs, but Miranda IM allows you to conveniently monitor and manage many of your chat and messaging programs in one place.

Version: Miranda IM (Windows NT/2000/XP) 0.6.1
Pros: lightweight universal instant messeger than takes little resources and doesnt require addition downloads ((trillian with quicktime and gaim with gtk)).
Cons: the only con i have which might not bother a lot is that it has no sound for incoming messages. i know you can download plug-ins for it but frankly its not that simple to figure out how to get those plug-ins to work. because of miranda it has made me re-evaluate all other IMs and by comparison the others only deserve a max of 4 stars while this a 4 1/2.

"Excellent for the simple or complex. When will CNET review?"
Pros: This is the most impressive chat platform I have ever tried, and I have tried ALL that run on windows. It can be simple or complex, depending on your choice. What does it take to get a CNET Editor's review? This thing beats Trillian and all in my opinion. I cannot recommend this thing enough.
Cons: If I were to say a con, it is the learning curve in managing the plugins/addons...but these plugins are part of what makes it so Great! There is something for EVERYONE.

"Pretty good, simple IM program"
Pros: It doesn't require many system resources, and is very easy to use. Very quick to load and connect; works great with AIM and MSN (the two I use) at least.
Cons: Plugins require sort of a runaround to use. A little annoying to set up the first time. Won't load when windows starts.

"Compared to Trillian I still get trouble to log in to Yahoo."
Pros: I like the msn messenger icons. (the butterfly)
Cons: Compared to Trillian I still get trouble to log in to Yahoo.
